  • Description Robert Half has a client in the Real Estate - Developers industry seeking an ambitious, enthusiastic Controller to join their esteemed company. This leadership role oversees an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Virginia Beach, Virginia area.

    Major responsibilities

    • Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

    • Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

    • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

    • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

    • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

    • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

    • Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

    • Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

    • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

    • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

    • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation Requirements - Be detailed, flexible, and organized

    • Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

    • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

    • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment

    • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

    • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

    • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

    • Quality experience with cost analysis

    • Well-founded grasp of bi-Monthly Payroll

    • General familiarity with Full Cycle Payroll

    • Practical knowledge of Cash Flow Analysis

    • Accounts Payable (AP) experience

    • Annual Budget experience

    • Accounts Payable (AP) experience highly desired

    • Wide ranging experience with Complex Financial Analysis

    • Proven knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR)

    • Budgeting experience preferred

    • Proficiency in budget forecasting

    • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

    • CPA/MBA preferred

    • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

    • Excellent communication and organizational skills

    • Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail
