Robert Half is recruiting for an exciting accounting opportunity with a growing non-profit organization in Fairfax, VA!

Position Overview

As the Accounts Payable Specialist, you will be responsible for processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and maintaining vendor relationships. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, while also supporting the organization's mission through efficient management of financial resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Invoice Processing: Review and process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper coding, approval, and documentation according to organizational policies and procedures.

• Payment Processing: Prepare and process payments, including checks, electronic transfers, and ACH payments, in a timely manner while adhering to payment terms and deadlines.

• Vendor Management: Maintain positive relationships with vendors, respond to inquiries, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payment to vendors to maintain favorable terms and discounts.

• Expense Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts payable transactions, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate recording of expenses in the general ledger.

• Month-End Closing: Assist with month-end closing activities, including preparing accruals, reconciling accounts payable sub-ledger to the general ledger, and generating financial reports as needed.

• Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, accounting standards, and internal controls in accounts payable processes. Assist in audits and reviews by providing documentation and support as needed.

• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in accounts payable processes. Implement best practices and streamline workflows to optimize efficiency and accuracy.

• Reporting: Generate accounts payable reports and provide analysis of payment trends, aging of payables, and other key metrics to support management decision-making.

Requirements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting roles, preferably in a nonprofit or similar environment.

• Proficiency in accounting software (MS Dynamics preferred) and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
