  • UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a full-time Transplant Procurement Specialist to join our growing department!

    The person in this role will coordinate and communicate all aspects of import organ recovery and actively provide hospital/transplant center development and professional programs. Screen and evaluate potential organs for transplantation in conjunction with the transplant surgeon. Provide organ recovery and coordination services to all transplant disciplines.

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate placement of organs between local transplant centers following United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) guidelines.

    • Coordinate and monitor donor surgical recovery in the operating room.

    • Present weekly activity at Patient Selection Committee meetings for all transplant disciplines.

    • Evaluate and communicates all import organ offers.

    • Request additional laboratory texting and/or donor management changes.

    • Complete and maintain all data forms required for recovery and transplant services.

    • Coordinate recovery process with other UPMC transplant staff members and host OPO.

    • Remain updated on UNOS, AOPO and UPMC policies.

    • Provide written and verbal feedback to all related persons within 72 hours of recovery and transplantation.

    • Support transplant center Living Donor Program.

    • Assist with development and implementation of specific professional education programs to meet transplant needs.

    • Assist in the support and development of abstracts and research projects.

    • Manage the UPMC-sponsored professional education.

    • Support Region 2 health fairs, seminars and other programs to promote organ donation and transplantation.

    • Arrange transportation of organs and/or surgical recovery trams.

    • Consult and discuss organ viability with on-call transplant surgeon.

    • Coordinate and communicate with all ancillary services related to recovery and transplant activity.

    • Coordinate and document organ referral calls.

    • Associate's Degree in Nursing; OR Completion of a formal EMT or Surgical O.R. Technician program; OR Paramedic Certification; OR Bachelor's degree in Science and one year of related experience required, OR High school diploma and at least 3 years of work experience in organ procurement.
