    A Brief Overview

    The Surgical Technologist (ST) Educator provides initial and ongoing education programs for the ST staff across the Interventional Platform (IP). Education includes training, new hire orientation, and continuing education programs delivered through in-person and online learning platforms.

    This Educator collaborates with the IP Education team to deliver comprehensive educational programs that address both current and future requirements. Additional responsibilities include development of training materials, monitoring of educational compliance with regulatory mandates, program planning, facilitation and development of continuing education and competency-based programs.

    The Educator ensures ongoing improvement in educational services for clinical outcomes and customer satisfaction; evaluates new employee skill levels and maintains records of departmental staff proficiency; assists in communicating policy and procedure changes; provides on the job training to enable staff to consistently meet and/or exceed personal performance and departmental goals; provides input to employee performance appraisals as requested by department manager; schedules and documents all in-service education, competency evaluations, and new employee orientation; collaborates with departmental leadership for identification of needs and scheduling of education initiatives.

    What you will do

    • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:

    • Participates in the development and implementation of department performance improvement activities with regional quality consultants and department leadership.

    • Participates in or leads work groups in special projects as assigned.

    • Assesses and evaluates the impact and effectiveness of process changes on quality, initiatives, plans, and programs.

    • Partners with quality consultants and operations leaders for Quality Improvement (QI) projects.

    • EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

    • Develops education program, curriculum and materials tailored to ST skills level.

    • Collaborates among IP Education team to provide pertinent education to various staff roles.

    • Maintains ongoing education for all ST employees.

    • Provides Department Specific Orientation (DSO) to new hire ST employees and collaborates with IP onboarding team.

    • Collaborates with IP Education team at ambulatory sites and Cath Angio Dept. to support ST role training.

    • Identifies new equipment education needs and collaborates with relevant vendors to train and conduct in-services for staff.

    • Liaisons with schools for student clinical rotations and coordinates training for ST students.

    • DOCUMENTATION AND COMPLIANCE:

    • Documents in-services and maintains employee in-service attendance records.

    • Reviews and updates departmental orientation and competency skills assessment tools annually.

    • Reviews and updates department policies and procedures related to the Surgical Technologist role.

    • Supports unit manager by generating skills assessments and competency evaluations as required.

    • Works with quality consultants and department leaders to ensure regulatory compliance and survey readiness.

    • COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT:

    • Promotes staff engagement, communication, and further education by sharing resources.

    • Conducts rounds to support the learning of standard work and identifies gaps in training processes.

    • PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS:

    • Optimizes practice through professional organization guidelines and standards:

      • Association for Surgical Technologists (AST)
      • Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN)
      • Maintains own competency for technological advances and skills acquisition.

    Education Qualifications

    • Completion of an accredited CST program or equivalent, AND

    • Associate's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

    Experience Qualifications

    • Three (3) years of Surgical Tech work experience required.

    • Teaching or educator experience preferred.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of education delivery methods and adult learning models.

    • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems and clinical care process.

    • Knowledge of infection prevention/control standards, and relevant policies and procedures.

    • Knowledge of nursing practices, standards and policies including aseptic technique and Environment of Care.

    • Knowledge of the goals, objectives, scope, and functions of the Surgical Technologists including practice knowledge and experience with equipment and supplies.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills to deliver effective training and established workflow among interprofessional teams.

    • Microsoft Office and online learning management tools.

    • Self-directed, assertive, creative, and innovative in a high-volume work environment.

    • Leading or facilitating teams or groups and work effectively with a variety of individuals at different skill levels.

    • Work independently and have flexibility to handle a high degree of responsibility, and to prioritize multiple, conflicting assignments.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CST - Certified Surgical Tech .

    • BLS - Basic Life Support .

    • Category II - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks

    Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $55.80 - $73.92 per hour

    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
