  • Primary Purpose of Position:

    • Provide primary support to Tax Managers, Tax Director, and VP, Tax regarding all aspects of Tax Compliance for the Company, as well as review the compliance function.

    • Ensure the compliance of all federal, state and local taxes as well as issue resolution for the Company.

    • Ensure Company's compliance with rules under IRC § 856-859 for Real Estate Investment Trusts.

    Essential Functions:

    • Oversee day to day tax compliance activities

    • Supervise and mentor Tax staff, as well as participate annual reviews of Tax staff.

    • Oversee SALT compliance in respective jurisdictions, to include working with Analysts on audits.

    • Prepare federal tax return for Boston Properties, Inc.

    • Responsible for State adjustments to Federal Income tax.

    • Review REIT compliance under 859-859 of the code, for all public and private REIT's, including analysis of building amenities and services, as well as maintenance of the property management questionnaires.

    • Part of Company Dividend process.

    • Oversee TRS Provision and Compliance.

    • Review of Tax Analyst's quarterly tax packages and tax returns.

    • Review sales/use compliance.

    • Responsible for partnership projection process and communications with partners.

    • Maintain Partner relationships.

    • Supervision of work flow of Tax Analysts and Assistant Tax Analysts. Supervision includes review and control of compliance workflow to ensure timely and accurate work product.

    • Ensure proper compliance for Company Insurance Tax returns.

    • 1099/W-9 review and maintenance.

    • Work on special projects and transactions as assigned.

    • Ensure proper compliance with 1099 filings.

    • Review non-resident withholding.

    Non-Essential Functions:

    • Respond to and work with various government authorities to resolve issues with respect to tax compliance.

    • Assist other regional tax personnel work product as needed.

    • Ensure timely and accurate filings for all requirements of department.

    • As part of the Corporate tax group, work with team to ensure that group workload is performed in the most efficient and accurate manner.

    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • BS/BA in Accounting or related field required. CPA or MST in Taxation preferred.

    • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in Tax/Accounting.

    • A minimum of 1-2 years of previous management experience desired.

    • Strong analytical skills.

    • Strong written and oral presentation skills.

    • Proven initiative, and demonstrated skills for organization and multi task prioritization.

    • Strong project management skills.

    • Ability to work in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment.

    • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

    • Adaptability to changing demands.

    • Effective problem solving skills.

    • Ability to adhere to deadlines.

    • Prior knowledge of web based tax software desired, as well as knowledge of Microsoft office products.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed sitting such as operation of a computer.

    • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed standing such as operation of a fax and printer.

    • Involves movement between departments to facilitate work.

    Internal and External Contacts:

    • Interfaces with all Regional Controllers as well as other regional personnel

    • Establishes relationship and meets regularly with outside auditors and counsel.

    • Establishes relationship and meets regularly with members of the finance group.

    Reporting Structure:

    This position reports to Tax Managers, Director, Tax, and VP, Tax who provide supervision, guidance and evaluate work performance on a periodic basis.

    This position supervises Interns/Clerks and Tax Analysts.
