    Work you'll do

    The Scientific Strategy Senior Consultant lead analytical and modeling tasks focused on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense, public health and safety, emerging infectious diseases, and/or homeland security, with support from senior scientists. They will develop methodology, perform analysis on abstracted data, draft reports, and interface with government clients. Projects incorporate a variety of approaches such as: data analytics, computational modeling, policy evaluation, stakeholder engagement, and more, which will guide decision-makers in emergency preparedness, emergency response, healthcare, biomedical science, and defense. The Senior Consultant will use critical thinking, creative problem solving, and analysis to tackle stimulating projects in a wide range of exciting fields. Each project will require Senior Consultants to work collaboratively, think, research, and write in new ways.

    Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Direct research on topics including, but not limited to, CBRN defense, infectious diseases, global health security, biosecurity, emergency preparedness and response, and/or public health.

    • Perform internet-based research and other searches to identify, collect, organize, and analyze relevant data from peer-reviewed literature, news articles, public reports, and interviews with subject matter experts.

    • Prepare client-ready written reports and presentations describing data collection, analysis methods, and results.

    • Conduct outreach to subject matter experts and stakeholders in industry and government to inform project outputs.

    • Manage work performed by junior researchers -- shaping research directions, developing work products, and providing technical mentorship.

    • Work closely with Principal Investigators, Project Managers, and other Task Leads to manage the budget and schedule for tasks, ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed on-time and on-budget.

    • Contribute technical expertise to proposal development and other business development opportunities.

    • Work with federal and other government clients to support planning efforts and policy decisions

    • Conduct analyses on diverse and complex datasets and scientific literature.

    • Serve as a team leader on analytical projects in fields related to CBRN, science policy, and risk assessment.

    • Translate complex scientific concepts for clients and the broader scientific and policy community through written, visual and oral media.

    • Develop and present reports and analyses to various stakeholder groups.

This includes day-to-day client interaction and leads to the creation of relevant resources and materials (such as strategic plans, roadmaps, etc.) and work products (such as development of performance metrics, tracking dashboards, etc.) in order to successfully implement client vision.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

    • Ability to obtain and maintain, at minimum, a Public Trust Security Clearance

    • 2+ years of experience conducting scientific research and presentation, including designing and executing a literature search to address a research question, collecting and organizing data from published sources, interpreting data, and presenting findings in reports and meetings

    • 2+ years of experience conducting research and analysis on large data sets

    • 2+ years of experience with data modeling, data analytics and data visualization

    Preferred

    • 2+ years of experience building analytics solutions on large scientific data sets in R or Python

    • Ability to apply knowledge of scientific concepts to a variety of topic areas, particularly when available data are incomplete or scarce

    • Creative problem-solving, and ability to tackle difficult issues in complex environments

    • Ability to work independently and with teams

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Leadership and project management skills

    • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Attention to detail; organization skills and excellent follow-through

    • Deep, existing client relationships within the Federal Health space

    • Prior professional services or government consulting experience
