    General Summary

    Responsible for implementing the environmental program of NAS Pensacola. Montitors projects for compliance with environmental regulatory requirements - All Federal and State of Florida levels.Must be able to perform risk analysis, develop programs that exceed basic regulatory compliance and identify needed resources (such as personal protective equipment).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs

    • Assure compliance with environmental regulations

    • Inspect waste generation and storage locations across the installation

    • Inspect facilities to monitor compliance with regulations governing substances such as asbestos, lead, and wastewater

    • Inform individuals and groups of pollution control regulations and inspection results and explains how problems can be corrected

    • Arrange for the disposal of lead, asbestos and other hazardous materials

    • Maintain logbooks, records, and computer data

    • Conduct or oversees the collection of environmental samples

    • Provide accurate data to the on-site environmental coordinator

    • Prepare, or assist in the preparation of technical reports

    • Pick up and transport hazardous waste, and non-regulated waste, recyclable materials, and other materials in a timely manner

    • Participate in the on-call requirements

    • Respond to reported spills in a timely manner

    • Available to respond to off-hours situations including weekends and holidays

    • Plan and always execute all work in a safe manner complying with OSHA regulations and have a thorough understanding of safety procedures

    • Utilize Material Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics

    • Lead and participate in monthly meetings and other events as required

    • Conduct environmental training

    • Perform office duties as required

    • Work includes other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, compliance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and company policies

    • Other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or higher with relevant experience preferred

    • Two years' experience in the environmental field preferred (college level chemistry, environmental science may apply towards "experience")

    • Required proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software

    • Familiarity with applicable environmental, health and safety standards

    • Basic knowledge of terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the management of hazardous waste, waste oil/petroleum, storm water, aboveground and underground storage tanks, spill response, data collection, organization and analytical procedures

    Work Environment

    • Occasional and/or light lifting required--limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
