  • Instructs Basic Life Support CPR, Heartsaver CPR/Automatic External Defibrilator (AED)/First Aid and other CPR and First Aid courses as offered following the American Heart Association guidelines. Instructors may teach classes at the CPR Rescue Training Center or at other ProMedica and non-ProMedica facilities, independently or with a co-instructor(s), based on the size of the class. As needed, the CPR instructor can become a Respirator Fit Trainer and Tester and Safe Sitter Instructor. Maintains AHA course content and practice within AHA guidelines; maintain Respirator Fit Training and Testing within Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Safe Sitter ® instructors prepare young adolescents for the profound responsibilities of nurturing and protecting children.

    CPR Instructor

    Deliver courses by facilitating video presentations, lectures, and hands-on skills demonstrations. Teach curriculum, test students and conduct remediation, according to AHA guidelines, as needed. Complete required documentation Participate in appropriate professional development and training activities to assure accuracy knowledge and instructional methods. Remain current in AHA guidelines by attending updates as required Maintain a high standard of professionalism and ethics with learners and colleagues

    Instructors must be able to maintain timelines and complete tasks without on-site management present Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of learners. Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area and or teach at various hours and locations, as required by the position.

    Per diem employees are required to teach at least one class per month Submit course documents within five days if a course Perform related duties as required

    Respiratory Trainer and Fit Tester (optional)

    Complete the Respiratory Protection Program required to become a fit tester

    Adheres to performance standards in measurement of employee competencies in donning and doffing all respirators used within the ProMedica System

    Make sure PAPR/CAPR and Respirator Fit Test hoods are clean and equipment is working properly. Check medical clearance and N-95 Fit test/PAPR/CAPR/CAPR shroud train scheduled employees, complete necessary documentation (Respiratory Protection- Fit Test Training record) and enter results in computer. Scan all Respiratory Protection- fit test Training records into computer Enter statistics appropriately. Enter PPG and outside company records for billing. Perform related duties as required

    Safe Sitter Instructor (optional)

    Complete online Safe Sitter ®Instructor Course. Keep up to date on all Safe Sitter modifications Follow the Safe Sitter Instructor manual as required by the Safe Sitter® Corporation. Check supplies after each class, and notify the CPR Training Center to request needed supplies. The instructor needs to verify that parents have completed and signed the consent form, and collect money prior to beginning of class.

    Education: High School graduate Skills: Must be able to input and retrieve computer information Certification: Current AHA BLS Instructor

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education: Associate or Bachelors Degree in healthcare related field Skills: Microsoft Office, My Learning, My Time Years of Experience: Two or more years of active BLS Instructing experience Certification: Safe Sitter Instructor, Fit Tester/Trainer

    Additional Experience

    A high level of independent thinking, problem-solving, coordinating and decision-making skills are required. This position often operates without immediate supervision and/or immediate direction. This position represents the organization through community involvement and frequently interacts with other hospital personnel and departments, thus a high level of interpersonal and communication skills are desired. Must have an awareness of service standards and a pleasant and positive attitude

    Working Conditions

    Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to tolerate exposure to air-borne pathogens, bleach and other disinfectants. Physical Demands: This position requires a moderate amount of walking and lifting of up to 50lbs, and a significant amount of stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching and standing up to 4-8 hours. Instructor must be physically able to teach all CPR classes both on and off site according to AHA guidelines. Offsite classes require transporting equipment, manikins and cases of medium to heavy weight as defined by the Department of Labor. This position works with the public a considerable amount of the time, and may have irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.
