    Job Description:

    About the Role:

    As the Corporate Counsel, Food and Regulatory, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing legal aspects related to food safety and regulatory compliance for our organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including regulatory affairs, labeling, quality control, and product development, to ensure that our products meet all applicable food safety and compliance requirements, and will support management of any administrative proceedings or litigation related to TreeHouse Foods' adherence to safety regulations, compliance standards and best practices. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining our commitment to quality, safety, and ethical business practices. This role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is located in Oak Brook.

    • Legal Compliance: Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop, implement and monitor effective legal compliance programs related to food safety, labeling and packaging. Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.

    • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory and compliance policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current and evolving applicable regulations.

    • Compliance Oversight : Monitor and ensure compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards across all company operations, products, and processes.

    • Risk Assessment : Assess and mitigate compliance risk associated with food safety, including product labeling, packaging and distribution.

    • Contract Review: Assist contracts team in crafting appropriate provisions regarding food safety, compliance, labeling and advertising for customer and supplier agreements.

    • Regulatory Engagement : Maintain relationships with relevant regulatory agencies and industry associations.

    • Training and Education : Provide training and guidance to internal teams on food safety and compliance matters to promote awareness and adherence to best practices.

    • Incident Response : Develop and implement response plans for food safety incidents or recalls and coordinate with relevant teams in the event of a crisis.

    • Litigation Support: Assist in managing any legal disputes or litigation related to food safety and compliance.

    • Audits and Investigation: Oversee internal audits and investigations related to food safety incidents. Work closely with regulatory agencies as needed.

    • Vendor and Supplier Management: Collaborate with procurement and supply chain team to evaluate and manage food safety compliance among vendors and suppliers.

    About You:

    You'll fit right in if you have:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active state bar membership.

    • 8+ years of legal experience with a focus on food safety and compliance

    • Strong understanding of FDA, USDA, CFIA and other food safety and labeling regulations.

    • Proven experience assisting in developing and implementing food safety and compliance policies and procedures.

    • Experience in food safety litigation and recall management a plus.

    • Familiarity with international food safety regulations.

    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations and prioritize tasks effectively.

    • Prior in-house experience preferred.
