    We offer an exciting opportunity for a Controller in the Amusement/Recreation Ser/Entertainment industry based in San Jose, California. The primary function of this role is to oversee and lead a small accounting team, ensuring that all financial operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role will significantly impact the financial health and success of the team and the broader organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and direction to a small accounting team, including Senior and Junior Accountants, by monitoring transactions and setting and enforcing policies and procedures

    • Process bi-weekly payroll and book payroll journal entries to ensure accurate and timely payment to all staff

    • Perform month-end closes by reconciling bank accounts, booking journal entries such as accruals, deferrals, and depreciation, and tracking revenue to ensure it's in the correct period

    • Oversee treasury functions by signing and approving payments and arranging owner distributions on a timely basis

    • Prepare financial slides with variance analysis and commentary for monthly presentations to assist the ownership group in understanding the company's current financial status

    • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, and Marketing on providing financial input and direction on various projects

    • Develop yearly and long-term budgets by communicating with all departments to access budget priorities

    • Research and benchmark against similar companies in this industry to ensure competitive practices

    • Handle tax and license processes, including monthly sales tax, property tax, and working with auditors to generate yearly tax forms, ensuring licenses and permits are current and in good order

    • Track capital expenditures in the accounting system and report to the board monthly

    • Monitor bank accounts to assure appropriate cash to meet business needs and make necessary adjustments

    • Create policies and procedures to protect company assets and ensure internal controls are in place.

    Requirements - Proficiency in Month End Close processes

    • Profound understanding of Monthly Financial Statements

    • Demonstrable experience in Treasury management

    • Familiarity with Property Tax regulations and processes

    • Proven ability to manage and execute Annual Budgets

    • Comprehensive knowledge of the Amusement/Recreation Ser/Entertainment industry

    • Proven track record in a Controller role or similar financial leadership position

    • Excellent leadership and team management skills

    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Advanced proficiency in financial software and MS Office Suite

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master's degree preferred)

    • Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA) is a plus

    • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development.
