    Nelnet is seeking an experienced professional to lead actuarial disciplines related to its reinsurance activities. Nelnet reinsures 70 property and casualty lines with multiple carriers and plans to expand its reinsurance footprint. Nelnet also owns a single state life & health charter which operates solely for reinsurance opportunities.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead all actuarial activities, focusing on Nelnet's reinsurance business.

    • Partner with the financial underwriting team and senior management to build out alternative reinsurance coverages and structures,

    • Lead benchmarking initiatives to develop and present a comparative analysis of underwriting and claims,

    • Maintain responsibility for the company's capital model,

    • Collaborate with senior team in strategic and tactical corporate planning,

    • Provide additional guidance around the external review of reserves,

    • Partner with senior team in identifying and evaluating potential insurance-related acquisitions,

    • Some travel is required.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Lead the development and completion of actuarial risk evaluations consistent with ERM standards and best practices, with a strong focus on reinsurance.,

    • Manage data reporting processes with the data analytics team focused on ongoing performance of ceded risk to Nelnet's reinsurance entities,

    • Partner with internal and external business partners to support the development of reinsurance Requests for Proposals (RFP) and/or treaty changes, as needed,

    • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders for areas under your responsibility,

    • Organize findings in a clear, systematic fashion and present actuarial recommendations to various levels of management and other stakeholders,

    • Develop projections for financial planning and analysis and investigates major drivers of variance,

    • Manage data reporting processes with the data analytics team focused on ongoing performance of ceded risk to Nelnet's reinsurance entities,

    • Maintain responsibility for the company's capital model,

    • Provides additional guidance around the external review of reserves.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree required

    • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or Associate (ACAS) designation,

    • Minimum four years' experience in the property/casualty insurance industry,

    • Proven track record in commercial lines pricing and reserving,

    • Experience pricing large accounts and/or treaty reinsurance is preferred,

    • Capital modeling experience is preferred,

    • Experience and/or proficiency in reinsurance or risk management is preferred, with a focus on MGA program business,

    • Familiarity with GAAP, statutory, and tax valuation and financial reporting,

    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate complex data and analysis to non-actuarial persons.

    • PC and technical skills, with a working knowledge of database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL, or equivalent), spreadsheets, statistical programs,

    • Advanced understanding of insurance financial metrics and analysis techniques,

    • Advanced understanding of actuarial assumptions and experience analysis methods,

    Salary range for this role is $200,000-$275,000 depending on experience.
