    JOB PURPOSE:

    Responsibilities:

    Undergeneralsupervision,theincumbentperformsallfacetsofgeneral carpentryandmillwork/cabinet-makingworkincludingfabrication,installation,repairofdoors, doorframes,cabinets,alltypes ofcaseworkincludingcountertops,customerservicedesks,mail distributioncenters,foodservicecasework,cashregisterstands,replicationandinstallationofwoodwindows,interiorpaneling,molding, trimwork,stairs,andrelatedfinishcarpentryforallResidential andDiningEnterprisesfacilities.Incumbentalsoperformsgeneralcarpentryandrelatedworkincludingframing,structuralandcosmeticrepairs, modifications,anddemolitionofexistinginstallations.Carpentrywork isperformedinandon R&DEfacilitiesincludingresidence halls,apartments, Dining andHospitalityfacilities,offices,andmeetingspacesunderR&DE managementincludingscheduledworkandemergencyrepairservicesduringnormalworkhoursand after-hours.

    Workisassignedthroughworkordersassignedtoindividuals.Workmaybeperformedfromsketches,verbalinstructions,orreplicatingexisting constructionmeansandmethods.Workmaybeinspectedforsatisfactorycompliancewithinstructionsandworkmanshipqualify;routinerepairsandconstructionareusuallymadeindependentlywithoutdirectoversight.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performsallfacetsofgeneralmaintenancecarpentryincludingframing,formwork,dryrotrepair,siding,andexteriortriminstallationandrepairs,installationandrepairstowindows,doors,doorframes.

    • Performsallaspectsofcabinetmakingandfinishcarpentryincludingfabricationandrepairofcasework,countertops,furniture,plasticlaminatework,trim andfinishwork.

    • Repairsalltypes offurnitureincludingcabinets,tables,shelves,desks,bookcases,bulletinboards,chairs.

    • Mayfabricatespecialwoodenpartsandfurniturecomponentsaswellsuchaswindowsash,customscreens,etc.

    • Maypreparefurnitureforrefinishingincluding thefabricationofnewpartsandfinish theremoval.

    • Abletoaccuratelytroubleshootcausesoffailuresinfurniture,doors,windows,andotherassemblies.Demonstratesabilitytorestore assembliesto originaloperatingconditionandappearanceusingoriginalconstructiontechniques/methods.

    • Proficientin theappropriate,safe,preciseuseof thetools of thetradeincludingpowertools andhandtools.

    • Abletoplanandlayoutworkaccurately,performaccuratematerialtake-offs,planfortheefficientuseofmaterials,takeaccuratemeasurements, produceaccuratesketchesofproposedwork.

    • Abletoconsistentlyproducehigh-qualitywork-plumb,level,square,scribecut,producetight jointsemployingjoinerytechniquesappropriateto the task,produceexceptionalfinishwork.

    • Abletoidentifyandselectappropriatewoodspeciesandgradesforspecificapplications,matchingwoodspecieswhencustomfabricatingfurnitureparts.

    • Ableto identify,select,and useappropriatefasteningtechniques,joinery,andadhesivesappropriatetothe task.Gluesfitandclampspartsandsubassembliestogethertoformacompleteunit, usingclamps.

    • Isknowledgeablein setting up acarpentry/cabinetshop, thecare,andmaintenanceofshop toolsandequipment,establishingsafeworkareasaroundeachpieceof stationaryequipment.

    • Abletoreadandinterpretplans,sketches,andshopdrawingsformilling andfabrication.

    • Ableto set up and operatevarioustypesof machinerysuchastablesaws,shapers,joiners,planers,bandsaws,routers, andrelatedequipment.

    • Knowledgeableinfinish-sanding,staining,andsealingwoodsurfaces,cabinets,furniture.

    • Abletopreciselyinstallhardware,hinges,catches,anddrawerpulls, fit cabinetdoors,anddrawerstocasework.

    • Abletocoordinateworkprojectswith othertradestoensurepropertasksequencingandasuccessfulprojectoutcome.

    Characteristics:

    Qualifications:

    • ValidCaliforniadriver'slicense.

    • Graduationfrom high school.

    • Minimum 2 years' experienceasajourneymancabinetmakerandfinishcarpenter;oranequivalent combination of bothtrainingandexperience.

    • Ability toperformatjourneypersonlevel in thecarpentrytrade.

    • Knowledgeofbuilding codes inhis/hertrade.

    • Must beabletooperatetwo-wayradio forcommunication.

    • Must beabletofollowwrittenandoralinstruction.

    • Wearsprotectiveequipmentandclothingas needed.

    • Operatespowertoolsutilizingsafeworkpractices.

    • Must becapableoflearningandapplyingsafeworkpractices,including but notlimited to:hazardouswastemanagementandhandling,InjuryandIllnessPreventionProgram,ConfinedSpaceprocedures,cardiopulmonaryresuscitationandchemicalsafe practices.

    • Possess the physicalability toperformvariousmaintenanceandmoving tasksincluding, but notlimitedtoworkingfromstepladders,abilityto liftheavy(50lbs.)materialsfrequentlyeachday,workingoverhead,kneeling, stooping,standing,crawling,orsitting forlongperiodsoftime,workin alltypesofweather.

    • Ability torespondtochangingpriorities;respondtoemergencycallsatnight andonweekendsasassigned.

    • Willingtoworkvariableshiftsatnight or onweekends.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Documentedsuccessfulcompletion ofcabinet/millworkerapprenticeshipprogramor similarformaltrainingincabinet-making.

    • Documentedexperienceinproducingcommercialcustomcaseworkworkingatajourney-levelposition.

    The expected pay for this position is $45.89 (Step 1) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
