    The Associate Director supervises, coordinates and monitors the work activity of a unit or department; develops program goals and objectives; prepares or assists in the preparation of annual operating budgets; recommends, evaluates and interprets personnel actions and policies.

    Associate Director Lab Services

    To provide financial support for Vanderbilt Health's growing laboratory operations to include revenue recognition, reference lab invoicing, analysis of operating models and cost allocations.

    Job Description

    • Accountable for monthly financial statement close activities including revenue recognition, expense distribution, financial analysis, and reporting.

    • Collaborates with reference lab team on all aspects of the business model including margin analysis, customer service and support activities.

    • Works with VUMC's supply chain team on activities including supplier analysis, inventory management and capital investment decisions.

    • Partners with operational teams in the development of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.

    • Supports VUMC initiatives impacting lab including proforma financial analysis, development of internal pricing models, supporting managed care rate negotiations and process improvement activities leveraging EPIC tools or other electronic health record tools.

    • Acts as an internal consultant for VUMC Hospital and Clinic Finance Officers analyzing lab activity including support and publishing monthly reporting packages, as needed.

    Skill set desired

    • Proven track record in supporting large health system or academic medical center lab operations.

    • Working knowledge of lab operations in both the hospital and clinic service venues with familiarity for the related regulatory environment of each.

    • Proficient in financial reporting and accounting close-cycle processes to deliver financial results in a timely fashion with accompanying variance explanations.

    • Ability to evaluate third party payor reimbursement in partnership with managed care professionals to support strategic initiatives.

    • Experience working in a highly regulated environment with recognition of ongoing need to remain current in changes proposed by Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services or other agencies with regulatory oversite and ability to evaluate changes in the regulatory environment for financial impact.

    • Competent in navigating EPIC electronic health record billing system

    • Experience beneficial but not required:

    • Revenue cycle lab billing, both technical and professional

    • Academic Medical Center

    • Reference lab operations

    Undergraduate degree required; Master/CPA preferred

    Hybrid working environment with approximately 2-3 days a week in an office setting collaborating with lab professionals.
