To Get More, You Have to Become More

Was it Jim Rohn who said, “To get more, you have to become more.”?

In the past, I used to hate to read. In fact, I almost couldn’t read, my dislike of it was so intense.

Then something happened to change that.

I met a mentor. Someone who had what I wanted and was living the life of which I dreamed. He and others I respected recommended I read self-improvement books.

I started slowly, taking months to read, “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” Then I read another book and another and now I can’t get enough. I have no less than 5 books right now begging my attention.

Why did I start reading? Because I realized that I didn’t have what I wanted and I took the advice of someone who did.

I read books on marriage, human interactions, sales, success, leadership, finances and more. I love it. I can’t get enough. I can feel the growth within me.

Another mentor of mine, Jack Bergstrom, told me that the average male reads one book in his lifetime after high school/college. That means that if you read, you’re miles ahead.

“If a man empties his purse into his head, no one can take it from him.” Benjamin Franklin was right. It is wise to invest in good books, good materials and information that can help you grow. A profound book of our time tells us to “seek learning out of the best books.”

Another way to get the knowledge is to use the library. I could not afford the information I’m able to borrow from the library. You can also borrow from friends—don’t be afraid to ask if they will lend you a book when their done. Ask others what books have made a difference in their lives and see if they’ll let you borrow it; I’ll bet they are more than willing.

If you’re green you’re growing. If you’re ripe, you’re rotting.
