NASA Looking for Tomorrow's Engineers

Posted by

Are you an engineering student with plans to work in the nation's space program? Want to get your feet wet with a NASA project? NASA has a number of ways you can showcase your creative engineering talents. A brief sampling:

2011 Exploration Robo-Ops Student Challenge. This planetary rover engineering competition tasks teams of graduate and undergraduate students to design and build a planetary rover. Up to ten teams will be selected to build their rover and test its abilities at the Rock Yard of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program. Here, undergraduate students are challenged to propose, design, fabricate, fly and evaluate a reduced-gravity experiment of their choice. Students engage in scientific research, hands-on experimental design, test operations and educational/public outreach activities.

2011 NASA Great Moonbuggy Race Competition. Registration is now open for this race, which will take place April 1-2, 2011, in Huntsville, Alabama, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. High school and college students are tasked to design a vehicle that addresses key engineering problems faced by the original lunar-roving vehicle team. Each school may enter up to two teams.

2011 NASA Academy. These academies offer a ten-week summer experience for college students. Participants learn how NASA and its centers operate. Students learn what it's like to work in a world-class laboratory. They also participate in leadership development and team-building activities. Applicants can choose from a variety of disciplines, including robotics, aeronautics, space and planetary science, and propulsion.
