Enter the Google Demo Battle Arena; Tech Glory Awaits the Victor!

Have you gotten in on the Google Demo Slam yet? In case you aren't familiar with the new Google project, DemoSlam is a competition of sorts that asks users to create an interesting or unique video demo of one of Google's products. The videos will be posted on Google's DemoSlam site to compete against other “slams”. As the tournament progresses, viewers get to vote on their favorite slams and each week, a new champion is crowned.

According to the information on their site, all you have to do is make an awesome video about something you can do using a Google product. Next, you upload it to YouTube and enter it into the DemoSlam contest on the site. Then all you have to do is spread the word about your DemoSlam and get people to vote for your video.

So, why are they doing this? Well, on their site they say:
“We spend our time making a whole bunch of technologies that are free for the world, but a lot of people don't even know about them. And that kind of sucks. So, we thought organizing the world's most creative tech demo battle would be a great way to help spread the word and teach people about tech. Not to mention, it's a lot of fun.”

And, it seems like people are having a whole lot of fun with this. I watched the previous weeks winners and was amazed at the degree of creativity. There was a group of kids who played the “ChubbyBunny” game with marshmallows, the trick being that you had to say “chubby bunny” clearly enough for Google Voice Search to recognize it. Another group took a cross country road trip down Route 66, using Google Street View and a projector. But, my hands down favorite was this one:

They re-created Mt. Rushmore, with the help of their friends, to see if they could take a picture of it that Google Goggles would recognize as the famous landmark. It seems like they were having a blast.

So, if you think you have what it takes to demo a Google product, step into the arena and show everyone what you've got.
