AT&T To Acquire T-Mobile

In one of the largest telecommunication acquisitions of the past decade, AT&T has agreed to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion. If the acquisition is approved, it would move AT&T past Verizon as the largest U.S. mobile communications operator. The industry buzz had Sprint gunning for T-Mobile, but the AT&T deal seemingly makes more sense from a technology perspective. AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM technology for their mobile networks and handsets, making it an easier transition. The acquisition would give AT&T more capabilities in 4G, and help AT&T accelerate its Long Term Evolution network build-out over the next several years.
