Summary:
This Department is responsible for Data Aggregation, Account Reconciliation, Database Administration, Pricing and Security Set-Ups, and Performance Analytics. The VP of Operations will lead all four of these areas and be a valued mentor for a staff of approximately 25 employees. The individual will be able to articulate a business need for change and strike a balance between short-term tactical enhancements and developing long-term strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
Manage the processing related to all security types, and related items, including: corporate actions, income, dividends, principal and income payments, reorgs, wire transfers, specialty investments and other related securities activities
Understand performance reports and the methodology used in calculating returns (TWR and IRR)
Check for accuracy of the performance report details and respond to questions/ inquiries from internal/external clients
Oversee all cash and security reconciliations, ensuring they are efficiently and accurately recorded
Assist staff in resolving open inquiries to which they have not received a response or are unable to complete
Anticipate and provide solutions to the most complex business issues/ problems
Responsible for the development of direct-reports and monitoring of staff development throughout department
Attend meetings for both potential and existing clients
Ensure that thorough business analysis is performed and accurate/ detailed business requirements are developed with the support of the appropriate Operations resources
Develop strong relationships with R&D colleagues to design, develop and implement technology platforms to deliver solutions to these business requirements
Manage processes, procedures and assess risk to ensure the system of financial controls is adequate to prevent material reporting errors
Help initiate change-management to adapt solutions/ resources to a rapidly evolving business
Assist staff in daily work during high volume days/ staff vacations
Support audits of all operational activities driven by the following: compliance, external auditors, regulatory agencies and state and federal agencies
Complete senior-level projects and initiative for President as assigned
Requirements:
BA/BS in Finance, Economics or Accounting (preferred)
Minimum of 10-15 years of financial industry experience(emphasis on back-office operations / securities processing)
Strong knowledge with the following: equity, fixed income, derivatives, global securities, and corporate actions
Experience with multiple custodians (10 or more)
Experience with partnership accounting and tax is a plus
Proven ability to lead, mentor, train, manage and motivate staff
Operational process and workflow expertise
Possess strong technical, project management skills and strategic thinking skills with the will to help create a vision for the future of operational processing
Ability to continually drive change within the operations department
Proactive approach, with the willingness to “roll up sleeves”
Display strong communication skills (written/ verbal) across all departments/ levels
