SUMMARY: Reports to the Commercial Accounts Managing Director. Responsible for the profitability, growth and retention of Commercial Account business within assigned territory which includes Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Westchester. The Managing Account Executive is responsible for the development (with an emphasis on guidance and mentoring), and retention of assigned staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Implement long and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives.
Participate in the development of strategic business planning activities that are designed to increase the presence in the market of mid-size, industry specific commercial products; retain the appropriate mix of business; and achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
Participate in the establishment of underwriting and marketing strategies and standards that reflect local market competitive conditions and, at the same time, meet our growth and profit goals.
The Managing Account Executive utilizes his/her underwriting authority to approve Account Executive account referrals. Collaboration on these accounts is a key function of the Managing Account Executive as well.
Provide both formal and informal feedback to staff on a regular basis. Development of staff through effective coaching and mentoring
Marketing and underwriting responsibilities include, but are not limited to, meeting with agency personnel to maintain and develop positive and productive relationships. Working with Enterprise partners to support market penetration objectives
EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY: College Degree or Equivalent Experience CPCU, ARM or related professional designation
WORK EXPERIENCE: Five to ten years Commercial Underwriting experience, experience in mid-size accounts preferable Extensive knowledge of product, operations, and agency distribution. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and business software applications (e.g., Excel, Word and Outlook) Demonstrated experience and skills managing performance including setting clear goals and priorities; coaching and developing others; providing timely and consistent performance feedback Ability to manage own work and effectively delegate and direct the work of others
Strong organizational, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead self and others through change
OTHER: Must be willing and able to travel to visit agents/brokers, other Travelers offices and to attend external meetings and events
