Corporate office work encompassing interest in operating companies includes: legal, accounting, tax, insurance (commercial), benefits (retirement plans, medical/dental insurance, etc).
Work encompassing real estate interests include: legal, accounting, tax … (separate department handles property management).
Current staffing includes : CFO, in-house Attorney, two (2) outside/per diem CPAs (one handles tax work for real estate and operating companies and one handles consolidated accounting for operating companies). We also engage an outside accounting firm to review tax work for operating companies, as well as they conduct audits on two (2) largest operating companies and on corporate parent.
Looking for individual to:
a) work alongside and under direction of CFO, to work in coordination with per diem and outside CPAs, and to work in coordination with in-house attorney and respective accounting and benefits personnel
b) handle tax work for real estate entities (currently done by outside CPA), including preparation of 60+ returns
c) gain knowledge of specific company issues relating to all corporate work covering operating companies and real estate
d) to provide transitional support for real estate accounting and corporate accounting personnel and HR Benefits manager.
Specific duties and knowledge required might include:
- Minimum 8 – 12 years experience as a CPA
- Tax knowledge/experience relating to real estate tax returns, including all form of entities, as well as transactions such as step-ups, exchanges (Lacerte software experience helpful)
- Knowledge/experience with accounting for manufacturing/distribution companies, including LIFO, intercompany eliminations, etc. (although we do this at a corporate consolidation level and not “day-to-day")
- Knowledge of property management and/or related accounting software
- Knowledge in field of employee benefits (medical/dental, 401k….)
- Knowledge of commercial insurance (property, liability, workers comp, fiduciary)
- Proficiency with computers and computer related tax and accounting software
Current office includes two (2) “first generation" individuals/owners, as well as two (2) “second" generation" individuals/owners, as well as approximately ten (10) other employees. Prefer individual who would be comfortable in a “family office" environment, yet for most part office operates as a corporate office for outside companies, and position is specifically for someone to perform an accounting function as relates to real estate and operating company activities.
CPA preferred / Big 4 or large business management firm or large corporation with experience in all areas of taxation.
