Job Description:

Purpose: Responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including Accounts Payable, Cash and Treasury, Accounts Receivable, Disbursement Services, General Accounting and Reporting, and Loan Portfolio Accounting. The supervisor is responsible for analyzing data and to provide input and feedback to the various accounting managers both on a daily basis and on month end close related activity. Responsible to assist in planning and provide input to ensure customer expectations are met. They will be key resources to accounting and finance for daily operations and be responsible for reporting issues or concerns related to both financial information and any staff issues.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the supervision of staff and human relations responsibilities, i.e. staffing, positive/constructive feedback to employees (oral or written), performance appraisals, staffing plans, timesheets, overall employee support, etc.
- Ability to plan and provide strategic direction for finance and accounting team members.
- Responsible to keep management informed of critical issues, trends, customer service concerns, turnaround standards, etc.
- Primary back up to the Manager
- Ability to train new employees on procedures, processes and systems utilization.
- Ability to review and/or reconcile, research and correct critical accounts for all Nelnet and subsidiary accounts.
- Be able to create and execute presentations to internal and external customers.
- Portray a strong work ethic and professionalism related to PBO attributes.
- Responsible to assist in creating budgets and to manage to those budgets.
- Responsible to motivate and further the development of team members to perform consistently at optimal performance.
- Responsible for assistance in review and updating of SOX 404 documentation and key liaison for ensuring compliance with the documentation.
- Perform analytical tasks on monthly financial activity. Research transactions for accuracy as needed
- Assist with the preparation of annual audit schedules
- Assist in maintenance of the accounting system, including setting up new companies and modules

Minimum Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or commensurate experience, 4+ years accounting experience
- Reconciling experience, experience working with computer reports and on-line database screens/systems, or commensurate experience in specific areas.
- 3+ years supervisory or leadership experience
