RESPONSIBILITIES: .Provide legal advice, expertise and leadership to Genworth's Insurance function relating to all aspects of Mortgage insurance and related operational functions, including the resolution of significant legal issues and legal and compliance risk mitigation. .Identification of significant legal exposures and development of appropriate risk reduction protocols affecting Mortgage insurance. Manage and oversee mortgage insurance enterprise-wide litigation and legal liability risk assessment including management of disputes, collaborating with business unit leaders and other staff attorneys, making recommendations regarding litigation strategy, settlement or case disposition and representing the company as necessary at mediations, settlement discussions and hearings. Also participate in selection and management of outside counsel. .Management of the US Insurance legal team, including personnel development, expense management and prudent allocation of legal resources. .Provide legal advice and guidance to the Mortgage Insurance Business Leader and his/her leadership team. .Management, with the Mortgage Insurance Chief Compliance Officer, of the Mortgage Insurance Compliance team. .Ensure appropriate legal risk mitigation within a robust, active and constantly changing business environment. .Assist with identification and coordination of legal initiatives and strategies within the larger Genworth context for consistency and legal risk mitigation. .Proactively identify and initiate legally sound opportunities for growth, leveraging the legal and government relations frameworks for competitive advantage.
GENERAL: .Position will work closely with Mortgage Insurance business leadership team .Position will be responsible for the Mortgage Insurance Legal and Compliance teams. .Significant interaction with HQ functions and other business segments
Basic Candidate Qualifications: .JD from an accredited law school; member in good standing of one state bar .10+ years Mortgage insurance or comparable experience .Demonstrated experience developing and supporting business and legal teams needing specific and general legal advice .Strong prioritization, organizational and interpersonal skills. .Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, project management and change management skills. .Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment. .Proven ability to execute against established goals .Sound judgment with ability to work as both a team member and leader .Ability to interface with multiple constituencies. .Ability to focus on details while maintaining attention on strategic priorities
Preferred Candidate Qualifications: .Experience in nationally recognized corporate law practice .Experience managing people and processes to efficiently accomplish objectives
