Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance
This position reports to: Senior Manager, Financial Reporting

Summary:
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Transamerica Life Canada finance team. The incumbent will prepare financial statements, regulatory reports and industry surveys for several members of the Aegon organization operating in Canada. Incumbents will work primarily in an IFRS reporting environment and should have a keen interest in this evolving accounting standard, and its application to the insurance industry. All areas of the TLC Finance team are focused on process improvement and the incumbent will have the opportunity to actively participate in change initiatives.

Responsibilities:

. Prepare management financial statements for IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) in conformity with the reporting schedule of the Company.
. Prepare/review accruals or accounting entries as required for AEGON Entities, and consolidation entries for AEGON Canada
. Prepare audited financial statements and footnotes that are used in the Annual Report.
. Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual industry and government surveys, annual and quarterly disclosure questionnaire for consolidation within AEGON.
. Prepare quarterly and annual Life-1 statements for OSFI
. Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual industry and government surveys.
. Participate in the process improvement initiatives geared towards improving financial reporting workflow processes.
. Monitor and research industry developments that will impact Transamerica's financial statement disclosures and document findings.

Qualifications:
. A professional accounting designation (CA,CMA, CGA)
. 3 to 5 years of financial close and reporting experience within an international company
. Past experience in the life insurance or financial services will be an asset.
. Effective written and verbal communication and organization skills
. Strong attention to detail and proven ability to provide insightful, accurate and timely analysis
. Being systems savvy and having a good understanding of how reporting solutions work will be an asset
