Position Overview: Responsible for data management, acquisition, and analysis. Provides analysis, data profiling and recommendations on specific courses of action. Investigates invalid/erroneous data sources, identifies root causes of data integrity issues, and creates corrective processes to reduce the probability of data integrity issues moving forward. Manages and monitors the data quality tools and works with business analysts to understand the business processes and data needs of the customer. Develops metrics for and evaluates performance of data warehouse. Partners with users to ensure the integrity of the data by developing naming and definition standards and implementing currency and data cleansing processes. Collaborates with the user community and the Data Warehouse Analysts to provide detailed business requirements at the data element level. Utilizes advanced information access tools, relational databases and statistical analysis software. May provide guidance and leadership to analysis efforts across departments.
Key Responsibilities
o Ensures the collected data is within required quality standards.
o Audits and troubleshoots data discrepancies/inconsistencies identified by data analysts or business users
o Works with IT analysts and business intelligence team to continuously improve data quality
o Provides detailed business requirements including business data definitions, requirements data model, and source to target requirements (e.g., transformations, calculated new fields, filters, etc.)
o Expert on the various data sources and data definitions within Blue Shield and will coordinate and document changes to these data sources.
o Maintain the data dictionary as well as organizing and updating documentation, policy, and procedures
o Monitors the data quality/profiling application and queries.
o Provides input to the development of data/information quality metrics.
Core Requirements
o Bachelor's degree in Information Systems related field and at least 8 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
o 4 to 6 years of demonstrated experience with business intelligence tools and systems, as a data warehouse business or systems analyst
o Knowledge of data architecture and principles of database design. Strong familiarity with a variety of data management and analytical software technologies including SAS, Business Objects, Erwin, and Informatica.
o Familiarity with Crystal Reports, Business Objects or equivalent
o Expertise in data management protocols required.
o Strong decision making, organizational, planning and problem solving skills.
o Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex data and provide practical business application.
o Thorough knowledge of the health care industry and heath care related data (e.g., claims, membership, provider).
o Ability to communicate complex material to non-technical audiences.
o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited.
Education/Requirements:
Generally requires 5 to 8 years of professional experience directly related to all aspects of the primary product, program or technology. Fully competent professional.
