Job Description: General Summary The Senior Accountant position is primarily responsible for performing all fiscal reporting functions for the mortgage company subsidiary. Incumbent applies advanced knowledge of accounting principles and government regulations to work performed. Work is varied in nature with changing priorities. Works under direction of the Chief Financial Officer of mortgage subsidiary and maintains the integrity of the Company's financial reports and related records and ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations through timely reporting. Essential Functions (MAJORITY OF DUTIES BUT NOT MEANT TO BE ALL-INCLUSIVE OR PREVENT OTHER DUTIES FROM BEING ASSIGNED AS NECESSARY) Administrative: - Primary Senior Accountant for Union Mortgage Group, Inc. and provider of support for other Holding Company financial responsibilities as needed. Significant role in the preparation of the annual budget and the Company's quarterly and annual reports. - Liaison for mortgage accounting software (AMB) maintenance, training and review. Functional: - Maintains an awareness of current state and federal reporting regulations and issues, as well as accounting standards, researches and responds to inquiries of federal and state examiners as well as internal and external auditors in both written and verbal form. Provides interpretation and clarification of regulations, problems or legislation affecting corporate-wide reporting. - Responsible for fixed assets and monitors billings for expense control and accuracy. Performs general ledger accounting functions including accrual and closing entries, makes deposits to cash account, reconciles accounts and provides financial analysis. - Coordinates new branch set up and general ledger review on the Horizon, Vantage and AMB systems. - Conducts research and analysis to develop financial data for inclusions in various reports. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital; prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other reports to summarize current and projected Company financial position. Investigates and reports variances or unusual items to supervisor. - Assists in preparation of month-end accounting report analysis as required for internal management and Board of Director reporting, including presentations to the Board. - Prepares Company's quarterly and annual regulatory filings. Monitors Company's general ledger account reconciliations and follows up with responsible personnel to maintain internal control. - Assists in the training and direction of Staff Accountant(s) and Accounting Clerk(s). - Provides as backup for these positions during peak periods, employee absences, or staffing emergencies. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TECHNICAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILL LEVELS AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATES NORMALLY REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS POSITION.) --- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and procedures as applied to a financial institution. --- In-depth knowledge of all regulations related to financial reporting and filing deadlines --- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills. --- Advanced PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet and automated accounting applications. --- Advanced written, oral and interpersonal skills with ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations. This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or CPA certification with 5 years of related experience.
