Job Requirements GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Our senior accountant position resides within our Accounting Close & Statutory Reporting team. This team is responsible for coordinating and executing the quarterly accounting close process, statutory-basis regulatory filings, audited statutory-basis financial statements & statutory MD&A preparation, consolidated and business unit statutory-basis financial analysis, and executing various process improvement projects ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Perform tasks as part of the preparation of the statutory financial statements for domestic insurance companies on a quarterly basis including NAIC and various state filings. * Participate in the quarterly financial close process which includes the preparation of journal entries and execution of close process and SOX and MAR controls. * Assist in the implementation of statutory accounting principles. * Work with the external auditors during the preparation of the annual statutory audits of the domestic insurance companies * Assist in the preparation of various surveys and information requests from outside groups such as AM Best, Moody's, ACLI, etc. and from state insurance departments. * Help maintain and improve internal control systems to ensure a successful outcome of SOX/MAR testing and opinion. * Participate in special projects related to the financial close process and internal/external financial reporting making process improvements. * Research, analyze, recommend, and implement solutions to complex problems. ADDITIONAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES * Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures. * Remains current in profession and industry trends. * Makes a positive contribution as demonstrated by: * making suggestions for improvement * learning new skills, procedures and processes. * Performs other duties as required. Additional Details * EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance is required. * 2-3 years of relevant business and accounting and financial reporting experience. * Either a current CPA or pursuing a CPA license
OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES * Strategic Skills, Innovation, Diversity & Inclusion,EnterpriseThinking,RelationshipBuilding, Talent Management, Execution, and Optimism. * Sound knowledge of accounting and financial reporting * Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. * Evaluate trends in analytical data. * Relevant life insurance knowledge and skill in accounting and reporting is preferred. * Experience working with Hyperion Essbase is desirable * Significant experience using Microsoft Excel * Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. * Strong attention to detail * Demonstrated integrity and professionalism * Ability to prioritize and manage workload as necessary to meet deadlines * Ability to be flexible to meet department needs * Desire and ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts. * Strong analytical decision-making skills. * Computer skills: * Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook) * Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements. * Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations. * Ability to work with others in a team environment.
