The purpose of this position is to generate superior investment performance in Russell Canada's multi-manager funds and/or separate accounts. This position is expected to act independently within investment strategy committee guidelines while managing large and potentially complex accounts or funds, specifically large cap managers.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:




* Responsible for multi-manager fund and/or separate account construction process including decisions regarding combinations and weightings of the underlying money managers (specifically, large cap money managers).

* Ongoing monitoring of each fund manager and associated discussions with manager research analysts. Proactive analysis of new candidate managers that are suggested by manager research analysts.

* Provides explanations of portfolio exposures and associated contribution to fund returns within the full context of the prevailing capital market environment.

* Involved in product related decisions involving excess return targets, desired risk exposures, manager fees,and other business considerations.


* Documents portfolio decisions and produces regular fund reports.

* Key Canada based contact for other Russell equity funds (e.g. Emerging Markets, US Equity, etc.) managed by Russell portfolio managers outside Canada.

* Involved in sales and relationship management.

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:




* Bachelor's degree; ideally Finance, Statistics, or Economics.

* Master's degree preferred.

* CFA required.

* 10+ years of investment experience.

* Recognized by peers as a thought leader.

* Demonstrated ability to improve the level of analysis and dialogue on an investment team.

* Demonstrated outstanding knowledge and application of relevant financial markets and theory.

* Demonstrated deep understanding of the differences between various investment strategies; thorough knowledge of relevant manager universes.

* Demonstrated outstanding ability to conduct timely investment analysis that puts current market events into appropriate historical perspective.

* Proven long-term success as an investment decision maker producing superior results.

* Highly capable of adapting approach to what is best for each particular situation. Able to decide quickly when needed, and skillful in identifying situations in which additional analysis is warranted.

* Insightful in knowing when and how to appropriately use various components of the output from analytical tools such as Factset, Axioma, Mellon Profiles, etc.

* Firm grasp of operational framework and regulatory obligations.

* Excellent interpersonal skills, including the proven ability to get the best out of Russell's research effort.

* Proven ability to represent the firm externally to clients, prospects, media, managers, etc.
