Centerview Way, West Jordan, Utah 84084. Listed below is a more detailed description of the position. In addition to the qualifications listed below we are hoping to find a candidate that can demonstrate great communication skills and can live up to our high expectations for internal and external service.
SUMMARY
The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for making consistent quality loan decisions on conventional Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, VA, FHA, Home Equity, 2nd?s and special mortgage loan programs in accordance with the underwriting standards established by the investor while maintaining the safety of member assets. This person will be member focused and offer alternative solutions to meet underwriting standards. This person will have the ability to follow the agency, investor, and Credit Union guidelines in determining the member's ability and willingness to repay the debt and in determining the property's adequacy as security for the mortgage. This person will have loan approval authority.
Duties: RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Under the direction of the Mortgage Lending Operations Supervisor, the Mortgage Underwriter has the responsibility to:
Essential Functions
1. Approve loans at the delegated level.
2. Develop counteroffers and offer alternative solutions to meet members? needs while maintaining underwriting standards.
3. Perform prudent underwriting on all conventional, VA, and special loans as offered by the Credit Union.
4. Complete thorough analysis of loan files to determine compliance with investor, VA, and Credit Union guidelines. Offer alternative solutions to meet underwriting standards.
5. Evaluate the entire credit package and collateral for residential mortgage loans and ultimately ensure an "investment" quality loan product.
6. Confirm accuracy of all income, loan-to-value, and other calculations.
7. Make loan recommendations to the Mortgage Lending Operations Supervisor if the loan amount exceeds the authorized lending authority.
8. Communicate underwriting decision (in written form) to the Loan Processor..
9. Be available to Loan Advisor for general guideline interpretations and questions on specific loan files.
10. Handle customer service calls from members or branch staff to explain transaction and find ways of restructuring the deal to meet needs of CU and member.
11. Assist in training.
12. Clear property and credit conditions placed on the loan, as required.
13. Have a general knowledge of all Credit Union departments and how they interact with the Mortgage Loan Origination department.
14. Have a thorough knowledge of all mortgage loans offered by the Credit Union, including forms and documentation for each type of loan.
15. Work with co-workers as a team member in analyzing and solving situations that may arise in the mortgage loan origination process.
16. Be familiar with all federal and state regulations governing credit union lending, with particular emphasis on rules and regulations governing real property lending on first mortgage loans.
17. Participate in the development of new products and services.
18. Act as a resource to other members of the department.
19. Ensure that written procedures are documented for all functions within area of responsibility and update as necessary to provide staff with instruction and guidelines for daily operations.
20. For the purpose of attaining Credit Union goals, it is the responsibility of each employee to strive for the continuous improvement of processes and quality of service to internal and external customers.
21. Maintain effective communication with all Credit Union employees to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals.

Qualifications: SKILL REQUIREMENTS
1. Proficient mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to perform complex income analysis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
2. Vision and hearing (or corrected) to normal range.
3. Mobility and flexible movement including bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. B.A. or B.S. degree in business or equivalent education or work experience.
2. Experience in goal setting and teambuilding.
3. Minimum of five years' underwriting experience, specifically with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA and VA. .
