Mgr Internal Communications

Title: Mgr Internal Communications
Location: North America-Canada-Ontario-Toronto
Employment Type : Regular

Responsible for communication planning, messaging, consultation and implementation for projects, events and initiatives that impact internal stakeholders. Ensures all communication plans and programs support the HSBC brand and corporate strategic objectives and takes into consideration local, North American and global viewpoints as necessary.

Impact on the Business
- Ensures key messages are accurate, professional, consistent, coordinated, timely, and effectively represent company positioning and philosophy and the HSBC brand.
- Conducts research projects, including creating, deploying and managing online surveys and focus groups, to gather essential data for understanding the employee experience and planning effective communication programs.
- Maintains strict control over internal processes to remain on-strategy and within budget, minimize re-work, meet deadlines, ensure accuracy and remain compliant with audit and Group brand requirements.

Customers / Stakeholders
- Establishes feedback processes to measure communication effectiveness.

Leadership & Teamwork
- Manages the full life cycle of a communication project from concept to implementation, including establishing the objectives, identifying the needs of each audience, developing the key messages, planning the channels, vehicles and timing of all aspects of the communication program and testing and measuring the effectiveness of the program.
- Provides communication consultation, planning, messaging and implementation for various areas of the company ensuring the communication component of a project or initiative achieves its strategic priorities, mitigates risk and leverages opportunities.
- Writes and edits presentations, online and print communications, web content and other materials in support of communication and project objectives and on behalf of all levels of management.
- Manages intranet communication channels as assigned.
- Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

- The position must understand the strategic direction of the company and be able to identify the communication imperatives and issues that result.
- The position analyzes the employee impacts of various corporate events and company initiatives and programs and creates and implements the strategic communication plans to address those impacts.
- The position recommends the structure, content and wording of internal communications vehicles.
- The position has contact with employees at all management levels, including senior management.
- The position must balance demanding, overlapping deadlines.
- The position must lead groups or individuals on a project basis and mediate project team conflicts.
- The position must render quick, decisive actions as required by sudden crises over the course of a project.
- The position influences communication strategies in areas where there is no direct line of responsibility.
- The position works individually, as a team leader and as a team member as the project requires.
- The position must maintain the integrity of an effective communication environment in a multi-faceted enterprise with many agendas, while satisfying executive, management and employee needs.
- Decisions beyond assigned authority are referred to higher management for approval.

Role Context
- Located in a comfortable office environment. Manages multiple, competing deadlines. Extended and/or flexible hours needed to meet deadlines. Some travel may be required.

Management of Risk
- Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
- Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.

Observation of Internal Controls
- Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of three years proven and progressive internal communication experience or equivalent.
- Strong project management, communications, organizational, writing and editorial skills.
- An ability to interact with the most senior members of the executive group. An ability to work in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- An ability to multi-task and respond to sensitive issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Understanding of the financial services sector and terms as well as the business and communities the Company operates in.
- An ability to understand the various aspects of a multi-faceted business enterprise from the perspective of employees at any management level.
- An understanding of brand management, particularly as it impacts internal audiences.
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing situations and conditions and an ability to manage multiple, competing : Communications and Public Relations
