Manager, New Product Data Enhancement-Sports (Sports Management/Finance)Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field or Computer Science degree with an emphasis on statistical development. Masters Degree preferred.
- 5-7 years experience in:
- Applying computational math in data or statistical display projects or products.
- Interactive design, development, or application
- Expertise in computational math and statistical modeling.
- Experience or familiarity with all phases of the project development lifecycle including research and concepting, model design, development, debug, verification, validation, and transfer to production.
- A demonstrable portfolio of work developing and applying computational models in development environments.
- Experience and comfort working with small, cross-discipline teams with different points of view and work styles.
- Experience with statistics and statistical software such as R, S-Plus, Matlab or others.
- Experience in building features for mobile applications on either the Android or iOS platform, or both.
- Experience or familiarity with feed formats such as JSON and XML, and API code sets.
- Development of online products or site functionality in sports, entertainment media, or news.
- Experience or familiarity in object-oriented development of products using one or more of the following technologies: OBJ-C, JAVA, AJAX, Actionscript, Web Services, CSS, XSLT, HTML, HTML5, and PHP.
Duties:
The Manager, New Product Data Enhancements, is a technically-focused, cross-functional manager and developer that will lead the creation of new statistical and analytical features and products for several major league sports within the Sports digital business portfolio, including the NBA, PGA, NCAA (all collegiate sports), and NASCAR.
This is a highly collaborative role within the Sports New Products team that will help chart a new course for the development and design of features and products that focus on innovative analyzing, interpreting, and display of sports data and statistics, social media data, and gaming statistics and data along with other advanced interactive features to be displayed with web technologies (Flash, CSS, HTML, JS and others) and mobile technologies (Obj-C, HTML, Java, JS, Flash). This will include creating data interpretation and display models, functional feature wireframes, data flow diagrams, and interface/display prototypes to be used in guiding development.
This role is expected to direct and manage projects leveraging internal resources and external development partners as well as:
- Propose appropriate mathematical computational models and approaches
- Recommend software and systems to be used in the development of these new statistical features and products
- Set technical requirements based on existing and new data source acquisition, database schema, and display technologies
- This role will also be required to review internal and external code or code documentation, provide feedback, and actively develop on occasion.
- Must have an affinity for and familiarity with Sports
- Must be comfortable working on tight deadlines in a live, always on development and operations environment.
- Must be willing to occasionally be on-call"" for response to product needs and significant extenuating circumstances on weekends/nights (e.g. big game nights, product launches) and to lead live testing of new products and features during games on weekends/nights.
- Self-directed, motivated and has ability to juggle multiple projects.
- Team player with excellent English written and oral skills.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Works well with multi-disciplinary teams across business, technology, marketing, sales and creative.
