Job Description Position located in Riverwooods or Stamford
This is a key managerial role with specific responsibility for Discover Student Loans credit risk management strategies and policies. The Credit Risk department manages student loans throughout the life cycle of the product. This position specifically will be responsible for Portfolio strategy development and its continuous enhancements by exploring new approaches and data sources to support improvements to existing and new programs. Participation in the development of requirements and installation of new strategies in the servicing systems to improve profitability. Establish effective strategy performance tracking to ensure strategies are performing as expected and if needed make policy changes in a timely manner. Minimum of 5 years of risk management required with experience in managing a student loan portfolio preferred.
Qualifications . Development of portfolio strategies using demographic, application, and credit data. . Development and implementation of statistical models. . Familiarity with alternative sources of data (e.g. Student Clearinghouse, Teletrack, etc,) . Development of collection strategies including the use of scores for segmentation. . Understanding of accounting and legal parameters and collection practices (e.g. Bankruptcy, deferment, forbearance) with experience related to student loan administration preferred . Loss forecasting and reserve calculations. . Development/support of portfolio marketing programs. . Familiarity with the student lending marketplace (size, competitors, etc) . Familiarity with Credit Bureau data. . Strong communication and presentation skills required including ability to translate analysis into clearly defined and supportable strategies / policies. . Ability to work under own initiative in a high-pressure environment whilst maintaining focus on key business drivers. . Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SQL, SAS experience, management of people processes. . Masters degree in Economics, applied Social Sciences or MBA with emphasis in quantitative disciplines (statistics, econometrics, etc.) preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
