To make your mark as Investments Accounting Supervisor, you will:
* Manage vendor relationship with State Street Bank (SSB) relative to outsourced accounting and custody functions. Independently communicate deadlines and reporting requirements to meet TFS deadlines. Proactively monitor, identify, and resolve issues affecting services provided by SSB.
* Oversee accounting activities related to monthly general ledger close as it relates to the cash and investments held by the three insurance entities and parent finance company.
* Ensure timely and accurate recording of cash and investments transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
* Evaluate the accuracy and reasonableness of financial information provided by SSB and other sources.
* Review month-end journal entries and various analyses for proper completion and appropriate documentation.
* Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance by preparing fluctuation and various other analyses including explanations that provide insights into investment strategy decisions.
* Perform technical accounting research as required. Maintain current knowledge of GAAP pronouncements and their applicability to the company's cash and investments transactions. Prepare accounting position papers as needed to support accounting policies and procedures adopted by the company. Initiate and lead discussions with SSB and fund managers to ensure appropriate implementation of guidance and other requirements.
* Work closely with cash management team to maintain effective liquidity strategy for the three insurance entities. Prepare and review cash flow analyses to identify cash needs and communicate appropriate course of action.
* Establish and maintain proper operational and SOX controls to ensure safeguarding of each entity's assets and financial reporting deliverables.
* Prepare accurate and timely deliverables upon request from outside auditors in support of insurance entity and parent company audits.
* Initiate and lead management other than temporarily impaired (OTTI) qualitative discussions by providing meaningful, accurate and timely investment information and recommendations that are in line with the company's policy.
* Oversee multi basis monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting activities for cash and investments.
* Prepare monthly investments dashboard highlighting key performance metrics and unusual or significant activity.
* Prepare quarterly and annual statutory basis investment schedules and footnotes in accordance with NAIC instructions and partner with TMIC Accounting & Reporting Supervisor to ensure consistency.
* Prepare annual stand alone insurance entity and consolidate insurance entity GAAP basis investments schedules in accordance with GAAP and partner with TMIS Accounting & Reporting Supervisor to ensure consistency.
* Prepare quarterly investment schedules for Parent company SEC filings and Japan reporting related to cash and investments.
* Own and distribute, as subject matter expert, investment information and verbiage for required footnote disclosures.
* Prepare investments schedules as requested by the Tax Department in support of tax filings and exams.
* Develop and prepare financial information and communications to support management decision-making and for ad hoc requests from management, business partners and customers in a timely fashion.
* Continually look for opportunities to refine and strengthen investment accounting processes and the accuracy of deliverables. Lead implementation efforts including generating/sharing creative and innovative solutions.
* Investigate and implement advanced use of current systems and reporting tools.
* Actively support business partners by proactively researching the effort required to implement investment strategy decisions that impact accounting, reporting, systems, vendors and processes.
* Lead and/or support projects initiated by the insurance entities to foster team oriented environment, balance the workload within the TMIS Finance department and provide cross training development opportunities for self and staff.
The candidate who fills this position will have the option to work a 9/80 alternative schedule which means working 80 hours over nine calendar days, with the tenth day off. The day off will be alternating Fridays.
TFS is looking for individuals with strong business sense and practical expertise. Successful candidates should have:

* BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Mathematics. MBA a plus.
* CPA desired.
* Supervisory experience required.
* 4-6 years of professional accounting, auditing, treasury and/or financial reporting experience.
* Must possess accounting, analytical and interpersonal skills.
