Description
The Investment Finance Origination position reports to Credit Director and is supported by one analyst. Midtown NYC location. Part of a team of 7 credit professionals which originate and manage traditional cash flow and asset based loans and other credit products to law firms headquartered in the Northeast U.S. This is a portfolio of approximately 70 relationships with $2bn in facilities. Exposures range from $1MM to $100MM per relationship. Client base is middle market in size, from $5MM to $2bn in annual revenues, all private. We are usually either sole lender or share the relationship with two or three other lenders through bilaterals or club deals. The credit product team supports the broader relationship sales effort of Citi Private Bankers who deliver High Net Worth individual loans and other banking/investment services to law firms, their partners and associates. The credit specialist is also expected to conduct peer reviews of customer financial performance vis-à-vis their peers using a proprietary model and approach developed by our advisory service.
The position works with Private Bankers to structure, credit approve, close and provide ongoing credit portfolio management of secured and unsecured demand lines, revolvers, term loans, letters of credit and other credit products to law firms. Credit Specialist is a functional title. Officer title can range from VP to Director depending on seniority of person in the position.
-Work with Private Bankers to develop and recommend appropriate credit and capital market solutions for current customers and prospects -Prepare and present law firm peer comparisons and reviews with Bankers and group advisory practice to current customers and prospects. -Coordinate with Private Banker and obtain pricing approvals to greenlight transactions -Negotiate terms, underwrite and obtain credit approvals, work with in-house or outside legal counsel to document and close transactions. -Maintain ongoing contact with customer to monitor business performance and covenant or internal monitoring trigger compliance. -Complete annual reviews of existing relationships -Identify and monitor problem credits -Work with and mentor analyst support to accomplish assigned duties.
Cross Functional Contacts: -Executive Directors, CFOs, COOs, comptrollers, and administrators of target market law firms. -Law firm accountants/auditors -Bank outside counsel
Qualifications
-Minimum 10 years of credit/lending experience, including financial analysis. Prefer lenders with a middle market/borrowing base finance background, familiarity with law firms or private companies/partnerships and tax accounting statements as well as GAAP, borrowing base financing, etc. -Presentation/communications skills: must have customer presentation/negotiation experience -Ability to focus on priorities, meet deadlines, manage competing agendas of external and internal clients. -Ability to work independently but cooperate with the team and mentor junior analysts. -Working knowledge of bank operations, credit/risk rating policies, procedures, products. Prefer Citi experience.
