Our National Security Global Business is currently seeking a Director of Finance. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.


 


Performs lead financial role supporting the Global Business Unit (GBU) President and GBU Leadership Team with strategic and operational financial guidance and advice for the successful execution of the GBU strategy, both near-term and long-term.  Includes interpretation, proposal of alternatives, analysis, recommendation of best business option, statement preparation, general business administration and on-going analyses of business issues and trends.  Interfaces  across the whole organization as needed to perform major operational and strategic responsibilities.


 


 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES


 


·         Consults with the GBU President in evaluating the financial impact of strategic business decisions through financial analysis and interpretation.  As necessary, provides same service to other organizational units within each Global Business.


 


·         Develops and implements the financial strategy that supports the Global Business's strategy, including establishing business plans for lines of businesses and identifying and addressing finance and accounting issues within the Global Business.


 


·         Assesses financial implication of Global Business' strategy and execution plans, consistent with overall Battelle financial goals.  This includes evaluation, with Treasury, of the long-term business and capital investment required by the business strategy as well as the financial effects of potential mergers and acquisitions.


 


·         Reviews performance and monitors financial parameters for the Global Business and organizational units within the Global Business.  Conducts complex financial analyses resulting in creative insights, implications, and recommendations about current and future financial trends and areas for improvement, focus or investment. Leads in assuring analytic outcomes are vetted by leadership team and that decisions taken are based on solid financial understanding.


 


·         Management responsibility for the accounting, financial and business analysis functions in support of the Global Business including the preparation, monitoring and revision of financial forecasts, budgets, and ad hoc reporting related to financial performance.


 


·         Directly manages, oversees, mentors, and develops finance staff aligned with the Global Business Unit who support Market Sectors, Centers, Product Lines and other organizations reporting directly to the Global Business President.


 


·         Responsible and accountable for management of: 

 




o   Training to technical staff on accounting policy that impacts project reporting, such as Revenue Recognition.  Monitors projects for conformance to Revenue Recognition procedures.


 


 


o   Advising the marketing and project management staff on business-related matters, such as recommending indirect account structure, reporting on sales information, monitoring indirect accounts, assisting in the area of billing/collections, monitoring T&M contract rate and category compliance.


 


o   Leading the preparation and ensuring accuracy and quality of the cost volume for major or strategic proposals.  Responsible for preparing the text and cost portions of the cost volumes for major or strategic proposals.  This includes addressing the RFP stipulations and/or taking necessary exceptions with the counsel of the appropriate Contracts Manager.


 


o   Interacting with client representatives on business-related matters or with teaming/subcontract partners on proposal and contract issues.


 


o   Financial review and concurrence of financial commitments at an appropriate level for assigned organizational units within the Global Business, funded or "at-risk".


 


o   General support in asset management.  Participates in capital equipment review committees providing information regarding uncommitted balances, priorities of purchases, return on investment, and information regarding asset cost, asset lives, and method of cost recovery.  Establishes reviews and revises general technical equipment recovery rates as appropriate.  Provides assistance in obtaining necessary space, office equipment, and laboratory equipment, as required.


 


·         Also responsible to ensure consistent financial practices and processes:


 


o   Working with other Global Business Financial Directors, Corporate, Government Accounting, and Internal Audit to identify issues and recommend solutions that will result in consistent and efficient processes and practices across the Global Businesses.


 


o   Partners with Senior Financial and Accounting staff to develop and implement accounting practices across organization, including compliance with revenue recognition policies.


 


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS


 


Required:


·         Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting and 10-15 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or finance including financial analysis and modeling or equivalent years of education and experience. 


·         Must have proven leadership ability and extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 


·         Ability to demonstrate good organization, communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.


·         Must be flexible with a high commitment to achieve deadlines. 


·         Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. 


 


Preferred:


·         MBA.    


·         Knowledge of and experience with the Federal Acquisition Regulations and Cost Accounting Standards and experience/education in contract law.


·         A solid track record illustrating good business acumen and operational experience directly supporting business operations in the related Global Business' industry.
