External Reporting Specialist (Corp)
Job Summary
The External Reporting Specialist is responsible for assisting with the preparation of financial reports. He/She analyzes and prepares accounting data and compiles internal and external reports to meet statutory requirements. The External Reporting Specialist reports to the External Reporting Supervisor.
Other Duties
Prepares External Reports and Government Filings
Researches and prepares supporting documents for the Annual Report, 10 - K, and 10 – Q forms.
Compiles schedules and disclosures to reflect monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements.
Prepares various schedules and documentation (e.g., debt schedules, cash flow schedules, Minimum Annual Rent, fixed asset schedules, etc.) to ensure compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulatory filings.
Prepares financial information for various other government agencies (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Transportation, etc.).
Supports the External Auditing Process
Assists external auditors and other business groups (e.g., Treasury Group, Financial Reports and Plans, Profit Planning, etc.) to ensure timeliness of quarterly and year-end reviews.
Provides financial documentation (e.g., financial schedules, queries, etc.) to support the external auditing process.
Reviews financial schedules for accuracy and completeness to ensure timely filing and reporting.
Compiles financial reports and other company records (e.g., debt schedules, cash flow schedules, fixed asset schedules, etc.) to support the external audit process.
Completes Quarterly and Annual Financial Reports and Presentations
Assists with monthly and quarterly financial statements and the financial section of the annual report to ensure accurate external reporting.
Researches financial data (e.g., trends analysis, costs, revenues, etc.) for financial presentations and annual reports.
Analyzes balance sheet and income statements for other business groups (e.g., Financial Reports and Plans, Profit Planning, etc.) for quarterly reporting.
Assists with Complex Accounting Issues
Researches complex general ledger reconciliations for the company and subsidiaries in order to resolve discrepancies.
Creates ad hoc queries from financial systems (e.g., Khalix, Oracle, etc.) for senior management (e.g., Supervisor, Controller, Department Manager, etc.) to review and validate financial results and quarterly trends.
Participates in monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Preferred Competencies
Demonstrates basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles; describes generally accepted accounting practice (GAAP) methods, such as, straight-line depreciation, accruing costs, averaging of costs, and recording of revenue and expenses in proper periods.
Learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; supplies appropriate details when responding to questions; maintains organized files.
Minimum Qualifiers
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting - Preferred
