Director, Strategic Development
DHL subsidiary Exel, the leading contract logistics provider in the Americas with over 40,000 employees and 500 sites across both North and South America is currently looking to hire a Director, Strategic Development.
The Primary function of this role is tosupport Exel’s strategic development, including business planning, product development, mergers & acquisitions and the strategic alignment of Exel's Business Units.
The Director, Strategic Development will support Exel Business Units by: providing expert support (process, tools, facilitation, and challenge) for strategic/business planning and acquisition/strategic relationships activities; working closely with Business Unit heads on day-to-day basis providing strategic perspective and if assisting in delivery of critical business plan initiatives; and defining, assessing, and developing strategic products for deployment in the Exel businesses.
Key Accountabilities include:
Strategic / Business Planning
Develop/enhance and facilitate implementation of the business planning process.
Assist division and sector teams in developing strategies and business plans.
Lead/assist division and/or sector teams in completing agreed key strategic actions.
Monitor strategic progress and facilitate successful completion of targeted actions.
Product Development
Define, assess, and develop products that will accelerate Exel revenue and profit growth
Lead the development of a systematic process to manage product development, from idea creation to delivery and ongoing performance monitoring
Strategic Relationships
Identify and vet target companies that increase the scope and scale of Exel's capabilities, including industry domain experts, consultancies, and financial advisory firms
Assist with establishment and growth of strategic partnerships
Mergers & Acquisitions
Identify potential acquisition targets
Assist with modeling and valuation
Lead due diligence process
Prepare project papers and presentations
Position Requirements:
Undergraduate Degree, MBA preferred
Minimum 7 years experience
Strong, broad business and commercial acumen and intellectual horsepower
Demonstrated ability to find the “so what” in each project
Willingness/confidence to disagree with superiors; a constructively challenger
Expertise in financial analysis and modeling
Ability to work successfully with company executives
Practical problem solver – able to reach sound decisions efficiently
