Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities are developing/leading a proprietary fixed income research & strategy function, with communications tactically and directionally aligned with the Ameriprise Investment Research Group, Columbia Asset Management, and the Fixed Income Trading dept. Additional responsibilities include helping advisors allocate capital in fixed income investments, promoting investment themes, and providing training.
Analyze, develop and distribute, through various mediums, fixed income market analysis, information and ideas, through approved channels and formats, on a periodic basis, including the management of a daily Fixed Income Research Note publication. The role assists in developing and promoting timely thematic fixed income strategies to the field, as well as consolidating ideas and investment themes from traders in a user friendly format. Expertise required in a broad spectrum of bond types and issuers.
Working with Fixed Income Department leadership and Compliance personnel, but from the independent vantage point of the introducing broker/dealer, develop ongoing risk mitigation techniques and strategies with an eye toward helping the trading desk achieve its business goals as well as helping advisors best develop appropriate fixed income portfolios and strategies for their clients.
Working with advisors, reviewing and helping construct client fixed income portfolios based on advisor-led client suitability, risk/reward objectives, and constraint discussions. Assist advisors in reallocating client capital, structuring specific client portfolios, etc., based on advisor/client needs as determined by the advisor. Utilize BondDesk and other tools to assist the field.
Educate advisors in fixed income investing by conducting branch meetings, continuing education seminars, and conference calls about the capabilities of the desk, and by explaining the benefit/utility value of various tools offered on the brokerage platform, utilizing pre-approved bond department and/or training materials.
Interact with the Investment Research Group (IRG) to align resources and tactical direction. Share responsibility for publishing fixed income oriented research and interest rate commentary with the Sr. Market Strategist and the Sr. Economist. Attend weekly IRG roundtable meetings to share market observations and updates. Participate in Ameriprise a.m. calls, Managed Account quarterly conference calls and quarterly IRG market/economic update calls.
Qualifications
-4 year college degree in economics or finance or equivilent work experience required -10+ years experience in financial industry -CFA and/or MBA or equivalent preferred -Series 7, 24 and 65/66 licenses required -Working knowledge of BondDesk, Bloomberg, Decision Analytics preferred -Must have experience working with a national sales force, introducing products, and motivating the sales force to learn such products. -Strong writing skills are a must, coupled with recent/updated desktop publishing skills. -Must have a strong analytical knowledge of fixed income securities and associated tools.
