Director, Enterprise Risk Management
Title: Director, Enterprise Risk Management Location: Connecticut-Hartford This newly created team will collaborate with the lines of business to create consistent practices and improve transparency of risk management decisions, and develop models to quantify the aggregate risk profile of the firm. The Director of Enterprise Risk Management will be charged with forming opinions on market risk management practices and the level of risk taken, providing an assessment of our risk management capability, and assuring the framework is aligned from enterprise level to the lines of business with limit structures within the organization supporting enterprise limits. This will be accomplished by the creation of the aggregation of market risk, the development of a transparent decision making process, and by ensuring that the monitoring process is operational. Major responsibilities of this position include: · Develop required analytics to assess market risk across the enterprise; develop an independent view of market risks · Build and validate stochastic market scenario generation models for use across the enterprise · Establish the assumptions for stress testing and the evaluation of tail risk across the enterprise. · Establish or validate significant market risk assessment processes · Provide oversight on the risk assessment practices and assumptions at HIMCO, the operating companies, and HIG corporate areas · Build and foster collaborative relationships across lines of business to ensure success in achieving goals of measuring aggregate risk · Benchmark company practices to broadly defined industry best practices · Develop approaches to monitor market risks, and design and evaluate strategies to mitigate those risks · Evaluate the efficacy of current and proposed strategies developed at HIMCO or the operating companies to mitigate risk · Assist in the identification of policies and limits at all levels in the organization and create documentation and process to track compliance, limit breaches etc · Identify and quantify emerging risks · Develop communications for internal and external constituents describing how risk is managed · Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or a related field · Progress towards, or attainment of, the CFA Charterholder designation and/or other associated Actuarial/Risk designations a plus · Knowledge and experience in P&C and Life Liabilities/Risks, Asset and ALM Risk · Excellent statistical and quantitative background, evidenced by model development experience · Demonstrated ability to interact and influence within a complex organization; proven track record as an effective leader and thought partner · Ability to communicate and collaborate well with others, exhibiting exceptional team player skills · Demonstrated ability to work effectively across different businesses and functional areas with an objective approach, driving toward common goal · Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially with respect to articulating highly technical concepts to both more technical and less technical audiences · Strong organization, workflow planning, time management skills that facilitate anticipating and meeting deadlines
