Main Function
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
· Effective credit risk management (evaluation of risk/exposure management) of counterparty exposures within the North American Natural Resources sectors, including Oil & Gas (upstream/downstream/midstream) and Chemicals, focusing on both investment grade and leveraged/non-investment grade transactions.
· Prudent and appropriate use of delegated discretion to approve and monitor credit exposures to Barclays Capital counterparties
· Working with leveraged finance and commodities team to structure and manage the risks of commodity-linked acquisition finance and project finance transactions.
· Engage in assessing and making recommendations of proposals received from business development/product areas
· Staying current with financial analysis and risk profile of the assigned sectors, borrowers and counterparties
· Alert manager of negative developments and trends for clients and segments within the assigned sectors
Supporting Senior Management in overall portfolio credit risk management
Main Duties
· Prepare and oversee/add value to credit papers and industry reviews.
· Present larger/complex credit issues to the relevant credit committees and management.
· Perform deal specific due diligence on energy sector transactions, including operations, contracts, financial models, etc.
· Engage with Legal, Leveraged Finance, and Commodities to structure satisfactory credit terms in lien-based secured lending and trading documentation.
· Maintain integrity of credit risk function whilst ensuring that the team continues to fully support Front Office relationship and sales staff.
· Where sector difficulties or client specific difficulties are indentified, provide hands-on support to the team to ensure that appropriate action is taken to mitigate credit risk.
· Development of personal contacts with all product teams and related support functions.
· Manage, train, and develop junior credit officers.
Supported by the use of both internal and external financial models, the candidate analyses: (1) the probability of default of the client based on its capitalization structure, ability to generate cash flow to meet debt requirements, and (2) the loss given default/probable recovery of the principle due under the contract. The analysis to be performed for each transaction entails a through review of the client historical operating performance (analysis of balance sheet, cash flow and income statement), ability to achieve projected future results based on a set of variables (including, but not limited to, market conditions, regulations, competition?), review and guide the negotiation of legal documentation with a specific focus on credit terms.
Person Requirements
Degree in finance or other comparable field. 5-7+ years experience in a commercial or investment bank covering project finance and the unregulated power sector. Strong knowledge of Loan, High Yield and derivatives documentation. High degree of proficiency with worksheet-based financial modeling and analysis of financial projections. Strong verbal and written presentation skills. Candidate should have relevant experience covering North American corporate and industrial counterparties. Self-motivated yet team-oriented.
