Main Function The Director of Cost Basis Reporting will be based out of our Jersey City office and will manage and control the functions of the Cost Basis Group. The candidate will be responsible for building a performance driven team that will review and maintain cost basis information; including daily workflow queues, reports as needed to ensure accurate and prompt completion of advisor/client requests. A complete understanding of Tax Reporting involving various tax lot mechanisms, knowledge of multiple asset classes, short sales, wash sales and corporate actions is mandatory. Manage and develop the Cost Basis Reporting Function within the Operations Group in Jersey City.
Main Duties Responsibilities will include: Taking the lead in providing Cost Basis/Portfolio Accounting expertise to the Firm Cost Basis project. Specifically by engaging in system customization and integration, end to end flows and the development of supporting processes/procedures. Defining and building a performance driven team that will perform an ongoing review of cost basis functionality in light of new regulations and future IRS guidance; maintain and make accurate adjustments to cost basis information; obtain, review and process ?issuer statements?; monitor daily workflow queues and reports as needed to ensure prompt resolution of customer inquiries. Implementing processes and key controls which govern the day to day activities of the cost basis function to minimize Operational Risk. Developing and issuing KPI?s/performance metrics for transparency to senior management ü Maintaining working knowledge of industry best practices and ongoing IRS guidance. Developing and maintaining accurate Cost Basis policies and procedures. Promoting open communication lines with business partners, most importantly service, to ensure unified understanding and direction of all operational initiatives. Overseeing the daily management / maintenance of the cost basis tax lots for changes due to transactional adjustments, and corporate action activity, and related systems and processes. In addition, ensure the quality of data maintained in the cost basis system to facilitate complete and accurate year-end information reporting. Ensure compliance with Firm policies and procedures.
Person Requirements Knowledge of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, Broker Reporting of Customer Cost Basis Information. ü Complete understanding of Cost Basis Reporting with regards to Wash Sale Rules, Accounting Methods (i.e. FIFO), Transfer of Assets, Corporate Actions, Short Sale, Corporate Services and Tax Reporting. Ability to work with internal/external business partners as needed to identify and document process and system enhancements for increased productivity, quality and efficiency. ü Proven experience with developing and managing a performance driven team; from recruiting on through performance management and development. Keen attention to service levels, customer demands as well as risk and control management. ü Knowledge of operational business processes, policies and systems. ADP Experience is a plus. Must be hands-on self motivated, and have the ability to articulate technical aspects of cost basis reporting to various audiences. Excellent written and oral communications, customer service, and organization skills Ability to multi-task and work on multiple priorities at the same time is a must. Strong computer skills are necessary. Need to have a working knowledge of MicroSoft Excel; Access and Word. Experience in ADP Broadridge is a plus. Must be able to manage a team and work in a high pressure dynamic environment; including having the availability to work overtime as needed Bachelor?s degree in business; accounting or finance required; MBA preferred. 10 or more years experience in financial services; preferably mutual/ daily NAV experience. Understanding of Wealth Management and Prime Brokerage a ensive experience managing a cash basis function. Background in the rules and regulations associated with the current IRS cost basis and gain/loss calculation rules with regards to equities, mutual funds and debt securities, including all the new rules pertaining to cost basis reporting as outlined in Internal Revenue Code sections 1012, 6045, 6045A and 6045B.
