POSITION SUMMARY   The Business Banking Credit Officer function is designed to provide thorough, objective analysis of the financial condition and credit worthiness of borrowers and individuals, as well as analysis of prevailing industry and market conditions.  Analysis is performed through the examination and interpretation of historical and projected financial statements and related information, biographical data on a company and/or individual, market information, and credit reports, with a focus on determining a borrower's repayment ability. The Business Banking Credit Officer also assists with the preparation of various reports, informational requests, credit inquiries, and other special requests from the Relationship Managers and Credit/Risk Managers as needed.  The Credit Officer also has knowledge of the various products and services offered in the Business Banking business and the ability to work independently and handle assigned transactions within the established turnaround standards with focus on more complex loan structures and government programs (SBA and EXIM).  The Credit Officer at this level will also provide support and training for less experienced credit officers and other credit center staff in application processing, credit analysis and loan closing roles.   RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the bankers in underwriting requests for credit extensions for new and existing clients, and in the writing of annual reviews with focus on more complex and higher dollar exposure transactions, including government programs.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis on companies, including trend and ratio analysis, and interpret the financial information.
  • Perform credit and personal financial statement analysis on individuals, guarantors, and co-borrowers in order to determine repayment capacity based on cash flow statements, tax returns, and statements.
  • Prepare monthly and/or quarterly reviews of existing borrowers in order to track compliance with various loan covenants as outlined in the Loan Agreement.
  • Build a solid understanding of Citibank products and services (both within Business and Commercial Banking and the broader organization).
  • Coordinate with bankers on customer calls and site visits, when appropriate.
  • Perform industry and geographical research and other due diligence as needed.
  • Be familiar with Citibank credit policies and practices and regulatory policies, to assist unit in achieving compliance with the above and satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
  • Provide support and training for less experienced credit officers and other credit center staff in application processing, credit analysis and loan closing roles.
  • Provide back up support to the team manager in workflow distribution and monitoring as needed.
  • Recommend changes to process to achieve greater efficiency.

 Role located in Irving, TX or Long Island City, NY

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (preferred)
  • 6-10 years experience working in a financial institution with a minimum of 2-5 years in a commercial credit analysis and underwriting role. (credit trained)
  • 2-5 years experience with government programs, including SBA and EXIM

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to read and assess individual and company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive analysis and projections
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem recognition and resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Proficient in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word are preferred), including the use of graphs and charts, and Moody's financial analysis software
