Collections Specialist Aug. 30, 2010 - Sep. 30, 2010 Location: Cheyenne, CO Salary Range: $11.62 - $14.53 - $17.43 DOE Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Benefits: Health-Dental-Vision Insurance, HRA,PTO, 401k Type: Full Time Department: WyHy FCU Description: The primary purpose of this job is to assist the Credit Union to fulfill its mission as stated above. This is accomplished by providing exceptional service to both internal and external members as defined by the Credit Union?s Service Promises. Additionally, to achieve success in this position, it will be necessary to contribute to the maintenance of a sound financial position for the credit union, specifically in the area of delinquent loan accounts. This can be accomplished through diligently controlling delinquent loan accounts and pending late payment reminders. Making the appropriate follow-up telephone calls on delinquent loan accounts and maintaining accurate records are required functions of this position. Duties: Essential Functions 1. Follow Board approved policies and established procedures for all collection/recovery activities. Collaborate with the Vice President - Lending in developing, applying, and evaluating policies and procedures for the department. 2. Initiate collection/recovery process by pulling loan file to review documentation, such as: lien perfection on collateral, properly signed notes and security agreements, insurance coverages, and credit bureau reports, etc. 3. Contact delinquent members and co-signers by telephone and mail to determine the reasons for delinquency and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts to a current status. 4. Supervise and monitor the collection of all loans, both in-house and those assigned to third parties. Consult with the Accounts Receivable Manager in handling non-routine matters. 5. Monitor changes in member payroll deductions to maintain a proactive awareness on member activity. 6. Utilize skip tracing methods to locate members with whom the credit union has lost contact. 7. Determine when loan collateral should be foreclosed or repossessed, and serve as liaison with attorneys or agencies in handling foreclosures or repossessions. 8. Initiate legal suit on delinquent loans as needed and perform all follow up. 9. Monitor member bankruptcy filings including but not limited to: filing claims, attending hearings, and coordinating with trustees. 10. Ensure that all collection/recovery expenditures are accounted for and remitted in a timely fashion. 11. Authorize and monitor legal proceedings assigned to attorneys. 12. Assist members in filing third party insurance claims. 13. Maintain the following monthly reports: Bankruptcy Report, Charge Off Report and the Loan Classification reports for management and Board review. Maintain and update the NSF report on items that are sent to third party collectors. 14. Provide the Delinquent Loan Committee with written recommendations regarding uncollectible accounts, identifying possible accounts for charge off. 15. Collaborate with third party collectors to recover losses on all closed share draft accounts and uncollectible loans. 16. Maintain accurate accounting of OREO transactions. 17. Provide feedback to external auditors and regulators in regards to collection activities and procedures. NOTE: The list of essential functions is not exhaustive. Qualifications: Education and Experience: 1. A high school education plus completion of additional coursework in a related financial field, at least three years of experience in collections, or the equivalent combination of schooling and related experience is required. Skills and Knowledge: 1. Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills essential for communicating with members on delinquent loans and projecting a positive image as a representative of the Credit Union. 2. Work requires knowledge of Credit Union collection policies and procedures. Knowledge of all applicable collecting laws and regulations required. 3. Work requires basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and operating system used at the Credit Union. 4. Basic mathematical skill required (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing). 5. As a financial institution, bondability is required of all employees working at the credit union. Physical Requirements:
1. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to see up close and at a distance; color, peripheral, and depth vision; and the ability to adjust focus.
