    Associate Director, R&D Finance

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the companywide planning process across all functional areas including developing timelines, the annual planning calendar, planning templates, maintaining rolling budgets, corporate assumptions, drafting Board presentations and understanding business drivers of budget changes
  • Continually improve the planning cycles in agreement with the Finance team
  • Identify and implement planning techniques (i.e. zero based, top-down, rolling actualization) to facilitate accuracy and timeliness of budget updates
  • Demonstrate succinct communication of data requirements to colleagues setting clear deliverables and due dates. Exercise excellent follow up skills and rapid turn-around of data requests. Requires strong capability in graphics and development of executive presentations
  • Through direct report coordinate headcount budgeting, reporting and analysis
  • Coordinate and manage the capital planning process
  • Partner with V.P. and other heads of R&D to manage the budgets which approximate $100 million annually
  • Support R&D project teams as a finance resource providing information on budgets and spend but also as a business partner and the implication of project decisions and outcomes on the overall economics of a project
  • Help drive the stage gate review of projects and the annual project recertification process which serves to confirm the ongoing economics of the project
  • Support monthly financial reporting accuracy and early warning of variances to budget or project risks
  • Be the finance representative on R&D Operations Committee ensuring that project impacts are clearly articulated from a budgetary and overall project economics perspective
  • Work with internal customers and cost center managers to perform activity-based analyses, operating metrics, cost management, and benchmarking
  • Overall responsibility for all R&D reporting to senior management
  • Working with direct report, own all development around finance planning systems (SAP R/3, SAP BW and SAP BPC)
  • Maintain and support Finance Executive Reporting web site
  • Ensure that all Standard Operating Processes (SOPs) are implemented or updated

Requirements:

  • Must have an undergraduate degree; MBA, CPA, CMA, CFM, CFA a plus
  • Must have a minimum of 7+ years’ experience in Finance with evidence of increasing responsibilities
  • Knowledge of the R&D development process
  • Experience in implementing and leading budget techniques for consolidated or divisional business planning
  • Proficient in understanding and constructing financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Experience consolidating and auditing financial schedules for Profit or Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows reporting
  • Strong communication skills necessary to interact with CFO level and to succinctly communicate requirements to peers
  • Demonstrate a high energy level, with the proven ability to positively motivate others outside span of authority
  • Proven track record of working with very demanding timelines
  • Work effectively under pressure
  • Excellent organizational skills of both people and tasks
  • Evidence of successfully leading financial projects is a plus
  • Strong project management skill is a plus; proven team-building skills are essential
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining highly complex Excel financial models
  • Knowledge of scenario planning is a must
  • Proficiency in using SAP is required
  • Experience using other enterprise budgeting systems such as Hyperion, Oracle, PeopleSoft, ComShare, Cognos, etc. is are helpful
  • Multi-Dimensional (OLAP) database user skills is highly desirable
  • SAP Business Warehouse/SAP BPC experience is required
  • Excellent skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
