Position Description:
As an [Associate] Director in Investment Accounting, you will supervise and lead a team responsible for the investment accounting for two large annuity companies with invested assets totaling approximately $80 billion. This individual will be responsible for investment accounting and reporting on both a statutory and GAAP basis.
This position is responsible for: 1. Managing the investment accounting close and reporting function on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis. 2. Working through complex investment transactions and accounting standards. 3. Providing preparation, oversight and review of investment-related schedules and disclosures for corporate reporting and stand alone GAAP and statutory reporting. 4. Managing the relationship with external auditors and the Sarbanes Oxley team to ensure there are no audit or internal control deficiencies.
Within the first six months to one year the person in this role will be expected to: 1. Gain an in depth understanding of both VALIC's and WNL's investments and related accounting, including all statutory and GAAP investment accounting standards. 2. Gain an in depth understanding of the SAP general ledger system and PAM investment accounting system. 3. Establish a close working relationship with the financial reporting team, the Los Angeles investment accounting team, the NY investment accounting team and the SAFG Domestic Life Insurance companies' investment accounting team. 4. Lead an investment accounting team through the 2010 year end close and annual reporting cycle. This includes closing the books for investments, preparing and reviewing investment schedules and analysis for corporate reporting, preparing and reviewing statutory annual statement schedules and completing the investment sections of both the statutory and GAAP audit reports.
The best person in this role has to be able to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks and related deadlines efficiently.
Experience and Skills Requirements: Undergraduate degree in accounting CPA Investment accounting experience a must Public accounting experience a plus Extremely proficient with Microsoft tools (Excel especially) Experience with investment accounting systems and the SAP general ledger a big plus Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong management and leadership skills
