The Opportunity This Assistant Regional Vice President (ARVP) assists the Regional Vice President (RVP) in providing innovative, bold, sales and marketing leadership for the sales team(s) Commercial Regional Office in order to achieve operating plan goals and objectives. This requires audaciously seeking out and acting upon opportunities for profitable growth and business development and empowering the sales force to use their abilities to become high, profitable producers for the organization. The ARVP will be integral in helping to drive the office's focus on increasing customer and employee satisfaction in order to establish the Regional Office as the provider of choice for its agency plant. Responsibilities · Assist RVP in creating and communicating a clear vision to the staff of the sales team(s) to mobilize them around a core set of values and motivate them to drive for results and to believe that their contribution is critical to the overall success of the operation. · Support RVP in the management of all activities of the team(s) to achieve maximum effectiveness in the execution of initiatives and the achievement of objectives. This requires maximizing the skills, flexibility and potential of the professional staff and ensuring continuity by anticipating and planning for future staffing needs. ARVP may assist RPV in the timely and effective administration of performance evaluations, compensation and incentive plans, development and/or action plans and coaching activity for employees. Also included in this accountability is achievement of the objectives for voluntary turnover. · Contribute to the creation and development of the Operating Plan for the field office and ensure that it is consistent with countrywide Hartford Commercial strategic plans. This includes redefining the agency plant to align the Platinum/Gold Strategy. It also includes the effective implementation of the strategy by building distinctive partnerships with these most important customers by providing them with access to preferential products, competitive pricing and preferred commission contracts. · Aid RVP in identifying and appointing new Platinum and Gold qualifying agents. Partner with them, as well as existing agents, to develop and agree upon aggressive sales plans which will result in their being able to achieve the requirements of the preferential status. Support them in their activities and continually look for ways to provide solutions to any impediments that could potentially block them from achieving the planned results. · Assist RVP in identifying prospects for local target programs as well as strategic partnerships and alliances, and direct the development of proposals for moving them forward by overseeing the development of a "business case." Work with appropriate home office resources to ensure a timely decision and effectively utilize them to assist in providing research, marketing and sales support. · Ensure functional integrity and overall compliance with business unit and field office underwriting and pricing guidelines and policies. This requires close working relationships with QAT and home office business unit and divisional staff. Take appropriate corrective action if results require such action. Ensure compliance with corporate Human Resources and "Code of Conduct" policies and practices. Seek advice and counsel when appropriate from local, corporate and divisional HR management Qualifications · 8 years progressive experience in commercial lines underwriting, sales and management. Highly regarded for leadership and level of technical and business expertise; has high level understanding or issues relevant to the broad organization and industry. · A consistent, high level of performance and achievement over the career span. · Completion of an assessment which measures leadership and critical thinking, quantitative reasoning and verbal comprehension; results must be commensurate with requirements for the position · The ARVP positions function as "grooming" assignments, and thus individuals in these roles are expected to consider their next leadership assignment upon completion of 18-36 month tenure.
