Description
This position will report directly to Mercer's Americas Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). The incumbent is responsible for:
* Developing and maintaining a comprehensive enterprise risk management (ERM) program for Mercer Americas * Monitoring adherence by colleagues to Mercer's Code of Conduct and its internal policies and procedures
Primary responsibilities will include:
*Developing and maintaining a comprehensive and effective ERM framework for Mercer Americas.
*Partnering with colleagues from compliance & professional standards, the lines of business, and other functions and areas within Mercer and MMC to create a process for identifying and analyzing risks
*Assisting management in setting risk appetites
*Ensuring that governance, risk and compliance information is effectively aggregated, analyzed and communicated to management to facilitate strategic decision-making, including decisions regarding capital allocation, product performance and earnings and capital-at-risk
*Advising on tools, technology solutions and communications to embed ERM into the culture of the firm
*Applying sound risk management principles to research, analyze and recommend sustainable improvements to processes, products and systems
*Promoting and influencing sound risk management practices throughout the firm by planning and facilitating presentations, workshop sessions and other means of communications on process improvement, risk identification, assessment, control and risk mitigation
*Working with the businesses to evaluate process or control breakdowns, losses and risk exposures, and to improve operational procedures with appropriate internal controls
*Identifying parts of the business that require or would benefit from formalized or improved business processes, and lead or assist with development and implementation of such processes
*Serving on various committees involved in risk management as a committee member, chairperson or staff
*Coordinating risk management activities occurring within the various lines of business
*Developing and maintaining a comprehensive framework for monitoring adherence by Mercer colleagues to the Code of Conduct and to required policies, procedures, professional and technical standards
*Developing core monitoring activities/questions, tools and templates
*Assisting other compliance leaders with developing any supplemental monitoring that may be required for their businesses or geographies
*Maintaining a centralized database/system for recording monitoring results
*Monitoring policies/colleagues not otherwise monitored by other compliance teams
*Working with other members of C&PS and representatives from the businesses (such as those conducting best practice reviews) to ensure a consistent approach to monitoring, reporting and remedication
*Reporting and analysis of monitoring results
*Developing and maintaining appropriate internal operating procedures
*Coordinating monitoring activities with other internal groups such as MMC Audit & Control and with external auditors
*Supporing a globally consistent approach to monitoring
*Maintaining relationships with professional organizations and peers at other institutions to provide input and feedback on program effectiveness
*Effectively partnering with other compliance professionals and business units to ensure guides and tools are leveraged consistently
Qualifications
* Undergraduate degree in economics, business, finance, mathematics or statistics/actuarial sciences preferred * Broad understanding of cross-functional risk disciplines, including knowledge of Basel II Capital Accord, performance methodologies, regulatory and economic capital allocation methodologies, economic drivers of profitability and exposure to operational risk preferred * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to influence across businesses and reporting lines * 10+ years of experience dealing with diverse international businesses * Experience interacting with knowledgeable and demanding audiences at all levels of management * Experience managing a team of professionals
