Primary Job Function: The Accounting Manager is responsible to the General Manager for the maintenance, management, and oversight of BUSU's accounting systems, financial records, payroll, accounts receivables/payables, and controls over the financial procedures and policies of the organization. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for the production of timely, accurate, comprehensive and readable financial statements and reports for the General Manager, Division Managers, BUSU Executive. Duties - Financial: Maintain a high level of understanding regarding the financial position of BUSU as a corporate entity. Develop and maintain accurate, adequate and high-quality accounting records covering all the operations of BUSU and ensure that all such records and the associated procedures are consistent with BUSU's operating policies and procedures while fully complying with generally accepted and standard auditing and accounting practices for not-for-profit organizations. Assist the General Manager in the formulation of operating and capital budgets as requested. Produce period reports for the General Manager, Division Managers, BUSU Executives and detailing the financial performance vs. plan of BUSU for the period and area/division in question. Maintain and track all reconciliation of general accounts of BUSU. Produce projected cash-flow analysis and reports for all divisions and areas of BUSU. Performs all other duties reasonably assigned by the General Manager. Duties - Payroll & Accounts Receivable / Payable: Manages the payroll system and process of BUSU and its divisions. Maintains the BUSU payroll database including but not limited to the inputting of new employees each year, and updating of current employee information. Manages and executes the employee RRSP program as well as other non-salary/wage related financial benefits for BUSU employees. Prepares biweekly payroll submissions including the review, certification and calculation of all payroll transactions for BUSU employees in accordance with BUSU policies. Prepares Letters of Employment, T4's and all other payroll related reports and submissions for internal and external bodies in accordance with BUSU policies. Ensures that BUSU's payroll practices comply with federal and provincial laws, standards and acts. Performs all other duties reasonably assigned by the General Manager Duties - Accounting Systems: Ensures that all accounting systems and financial practices in place are working towards the fulfillment of BUSU's mission and vision. Ensures that BUSU is operating according to policies and procedures established. Works to find effective and efficient improvements to current policies and procedures regarding cash handling, payroll, accounts receivable/payable and other financial matters. Ensures that BUSU's accounting practices comply with regulated and accepted practices for non-profit organizations in Ontario and Canada. Ensures that clarity, organization and efficiency is maintained and improved in BUSU's general ledger and sub ledger at all times especially while creating or retracting ledgers. Provides input and advice on alterations to the accounting software BUSU employs. Acts as the รข?oein-house expert on the accounting software and systems in place at BUSU. Tracks and maintains a list of users and their accessibility of the accounting software and systems in place at BUSU. Performs all other duties reasonably assigned by the General Manager. Duties - Administration: Acts as the liaison between BUSU and its external auditor for the purpose of coordinating and executing the annual audit. Maintains and oversees the corporate credit card activity of BUSU included but not limited to the transfer of funds and payments for purchases made on cards once suitable receipts or transaction records have been provided. In addition any irregular activity or trends are to be reported to the General Manager or the President if the activity is on the General Managers card. Assists with the Vice-President, Finance & Administration with scheduled safe audits of BUSU's divisions. Manages hires and directs the Accounting Assistants as needed on a project basis in each of the divisions of BUSU. Ensures all bills, receivables and payables with Brock University are attended to in a timely, accurate and analytical manner. Ensures that all inter-department transfers from Brock University are deposited and executed according to their mandates. Ensures that all Government remittances are made on a timely basis. Be diligent in ensuring collections of receivables and making payments as per the terms offered by the vendors. Works to provide advice and improvements in the financial dealings with Brock University departments and services. Ensure that daily deposits are accepted, accounted for and logged in a timely and accurate manner. Performs all other duties reasonably assigned by the General Manager. QUALIFICATIONS : CGA, CMA or similar designation preferred with 5 years experience in related field. Minimum 3-5 years experience in computerized accounting systems and environments. Legally eligible to work in Canada
