Accounting Assistant II
Essential Job Functions: 1. May post journal, ledger and voucher records from supporting data. 2. May balance and maintain individual accounts and proof postings as necessary. 3. May maintain other records pertinent to department and University. 4. May prepare and/or assist with daily deposits. 5. Audits and/or proofs accounting reports for clerical accuracy and conformance with department and University procedure. 6. Prepares monthly and other periodic accounting reports as required. 7. May operate typewriter, adding machine, calculator, computer and related office machines. 8. May compute hourly and monthly payroll records and verify time sheets and personnel action request forms for budgetary conformity. Non-Essential Job Functions: 1. May design and/or assist in design and implementation of computer programs for accounting records and reports. 2. May process travel requests and vouchers. 3. May supervise student workers and other clerical employees or act as lead-worker to other recordkeeping personnel. 4. May prepare statistical and analytical reports as well as routine accounting reports. 5. May maintain inventory of equipment and supplies for department or office. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Working knowledge of accounting theories and practices necessary. 2. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, University fiscal regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to department required. 3. Ability to operate adding machines, calculators, typewriters, computers and other office machines in an efficient and timely manner. 4. Ability to perform detailed work accurately. 5. Ability to work effectively with other employees, students, faculty, vendors, and the general public necessary. 6. Ability to handle large amounts of money with a high degree of accuracy. 7. Ability to work under limited supervision. Experience and Training: Minimum five years experience in bookkeeping or fiscal accounting required. Minimum three years working knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred. Experience in general office procedures and computer data entry and retrieval required. Work Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday. Some extended hours, as needed.
