Accountant II

UPS Capital is the financial services branch of UPS, established to meet the financial needs of businesses while accelerating money and goods through their supply chains. By combining financial services with all other UPS capabilities, UPS Capital creates a key link in the UPS global commerce synchronization strategy.

The UPS Capital Finance and Accounting department is seeking an Accountant II in the Atlanta corporate office.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant II ensures that accounting transactions are properly recorded, posted, processed, and reported; completes day-to-day maintenance to ensure thorough and accurate general ledgers; uploads, analyzes, and processes journal entries; performs and reviews standard month-end entries; and communicates and documents accounting procedures for specialized accounting and financial transactions.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS

• Complete journal entry processes to upload data in a timely manner.
• Conduct daily general ledger activities to maintain accuracy and timeliness.
• Review account balances to validate line item transactions.
• Print reconciliation reports to obtain management approval for reconciliation.
• Apply basic accounting and financial knowledge to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Audit standard month-end entries to confirm accuracy and correct account balances.
• Complete self audits to ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Validate signature authorization (e.g., expense reports, charge memos, etc.) to ensure corporate and regulatory compliance.
• Compile and analyze financial information to publish basic and specialized financial reports.
• Provide ad hoc queries and testing support to assist with systems processing and implementation.
• Recommend process updates to utilize in training, process documentation, and compliance policies.
• Code invoices and vouchers to ensure proper account distribution.
• Demonstrate a general understanding of industry trends impacting UPS or the customer’s organization; understands critical aspects of the customer’s organizational structure and functions.
• Demonstrate an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts such as cash flows, operating profit/loss, and net income; assists others in constructing financial arguments that enable UPS to maintain a competitive market position; identifies reporting requirements of external regulatory bodies such as the Security Exchange Commission

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelors degree is preferred
• 2 - 5 years of applicable work experience - preferably in Accounting, or related field such as Business Administration is required.
• General ledger account analysis is required.
• Fundamental knowledge and use of concepts, practices, and procedures of the accounting field is required.
• Knowledge of applicable software packages, i.e. Microsoft excel, access, is preferred.
• Public Accounting experience is highly preferred.
