Symetra has an excellent opportunity available for a candidate interested in becoming an Associate Accountant. This position will be supervised by the Accounting Supervisor and will support the month-end accounting processes, day-to-day accounting functions and financial analysis for the Benefits Division. The selected candidate must have previous Accounting experience, and should have in depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel. This position will have contact with many internal departments and also external auditors. Additional responsibilities include:
* Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end journal entries (including accruals and reclassifying journal entries) * Analysis and reporting for Benefits Division's financial reports to Corporate Finance * Monthly general ledger account reconciliations with evidential support * Assist with creating management reports * Works in compliance with company policies, internal controls, and Sarbanes Oxley Act * Work closely with internal and external auditors as needed * Backup executives assistant, including but not limited to: setting up calendar appointments, setting up conference calls, making travel arrangements, typing emails, answering telephone calls, filling out T&E expense reports, Xeroxing and faxing documents, ordering office supplies as needed, and any other administrative task request * Ad hoc projects, reports and analysis as requested Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting * 2-3 years of accounting experience * Microsoft Office applications, including MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Access preferred * Lawson, Essbase, Cognos experience is preferred * Experience in insurance accounting (reinsurance), internal controls and reporting * Great organizational skills * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines * A high level of multi-tasking is required * Remain flexible and a must be a team player
